It is however basic common sense that if something decreases in value then you'll get less money when you sell it. Doesn't seem to have occurred to Short.
Well it's like trying to sell your house when it has dry rot, subsidence, near a river that regularly floods & you have bats in your loft.

If it's a case of spending a few grand on the house to get the problems fixed and therefore raise the value by much more than you spend on it, or just let it rot then I know what I'd do. You don't need to be an expert in the field to see the sense in that.
It's a good thing you aren't or you'd rehire Maggie so you could leer at her chebs.
Just making the point that at least when it comes to this situation Short is being stupid and it's not to do with him not knowing football. The fact he still doesn't understand football doesn't exactly speak to his intelligence either.
If Maggie was my tenant I'd let her off with the rent for a weekly ****.
