Good point, but he's dropped Gerrard, and still kept all the younger and future midfielders in - he's done an old for old swap in one place, based on the fact Gerrard may not be emotionally up for it (mixed in admittedly with some sentiment, given Lampard has over 100 caps and is getting the captaincy for his swansong). He's not going to drop all his young strikers who might benefit from the experience and give the berth to Lambert, who has a handful of caps. Rickie is neither England's future nor its past.
Depending on who's fit, I can see SRL being involved in squads for some qualifiers, but doubt he will be involved in the actual tournament.
He hasn't 'dropped' Gerrard, Roy has just made changes for a dead rubber match. Rickie deserves to play, and actually if you look at his England stats, he has a better goal ratio than Sturridge
Yeah not doing anything for me either. Italy v Uruguay is just as bad. Worst quality group in the tournament? Maybe.
Should have been an easy group...just needed a bit more quality and/or luck. We aren't good enough to do well anyway, but other better teams are also going home.
Lampard is a lot more effective in the 'Pirlo' role in this game than Gerrard was in either of the first two.
Lampard doing ok to be fair. Distribution from the back is poor. Barkley...is he playing? Wiltshire still feels the need to spend half the game on the floor and Sturridge couldn't trap a bag of sand at the moment Other than that it's great!
