I know you were. My point was, you're scapegoating the manager, when in reality we just don't have the players.
I think we're just beginning to realise what Liverpool fans have known for a while. Hodgson's a nice chap, but he's not terribly good.
Our team is better than our 2010 one. A tournament where Capello was destroyed by fans and media. Hodgson is at fault for a lot here. Players out of position, changing formation just before the World Cup. Poor substitutions, no inspiration.
We have a lot more midfield options. But we are far weaker in defence, and England haven't had a striker you can count on since Owen retired.
If he had a basic grasp of tactics and substitutions then it would be helpful wouldn't it. The media and pundits would be all over him if he wasn't English.
I agree with no striker. Terry and cole should have been at this World Cup. It did not help that we had no defensive midfielder at this World Cup.
I've taken the failure, the questionable selections and lack of direction in my stride, I was annoyed when Rickie was considered the absolute last resort in two games where we were desperate for goals but I accepted it, but Gerrard and Rooney getting on the pitch ahead of him has made be absolutely livid.
"I'm not concerned about Daniel Sturridge, he'll take goal chances in the future. I thought we were really unlucky not to win this game. I thought the whole back four was absolutely excellent. We restricted the team to almost no chances. In midfield we dominated and outplayed them." What a completely laughable quote from Woy.... I saw a team that could barely pass, tripped over, couldn't find space, 'played' like they had never seen a football before. They didn't dominate anyone or anything. They were useless. We are destined for a long long time in the wilderness with this joker in charge and if the FA think he is going to move national team on. Just refer to his deluded quote.
England wont prosper until we get some better defenders and players who can retain possession. But who is going to take risks in the Premier League playing young centre backs.
Did you see Luke busting his gut in the 90th minute and making a succesful challenge, the boy done good.
All the elation that Rickie felt before the World Cup must have dissipated after today, to get just 5 minutes on the pitch when they were just pumping hopeless long balls up to him, when he has proved what a game changer he can be coming off of the bench to score. I guess this spells the end of his International career now, if he couldn't get a game in a dead rubber, then I can't see a future for him under Hodgson.
