    It is a frivolous appeal.

Is it a calculated risk so he gets to play against city before the appeal is heard?

No, he will miss City unless the ban is overturned (which has never happened in FA history)

Gary Cahill defends Chelsea team-mate's approach

"One of his attributes, as well as his skills and scoring fantastic goals, is that he puts his foot in."

I hope Cahill is representing Costa at the appeal <doh>

It's not an appeal as he's not been found guilty yet!

    He's contesting the charge

If Oliver says he'd have sent him off after reviewing it on replay. Can't see how the FA can overrule that but we'll soon find out if they will anyway.

So it's Costa's Oliver twist performance v Video evidence and the ref's call

There's no way he'll get away with it, he's toast.

When does an appeal become frivolous? Everyone man and his dog knows he was going to be banned for this, if there was ever a case for adding an additional game on then this is surely it.

    It's not an appeal ffs!

If he'd have been sent off and given a 3 match ban as a result it'd be an appeal, which could be deemed frivolous

In this case he's been charged after the fact and he's contesting the charge instead of merely accepting it

    Same difference.. :bandit:

contesting the charge... appealing the decision.. both similar if you ask me.

Either way they've charged him and if his reasons for not accepting the charge are rubbish they extend the ban for wasting their time instead of opting for the fast track automatic 3 game ban

They've already deemed him guilty so this is an appeal, as in appealing that decision

I think Tobes is right here.
If in a court of law you are charged with something, you have the basic right to plead not guilty. If you are subsequently found guilty then you can appeal against the decision.
The FA are, of course, a law unto themselves, so who knows what they'll decide?

Sounds to me like Tobes is defending the stamp.

It's not just semantics though, is it?
If you can be given a further ban for a frivolous appeal, then the question of what constitutes an "appeal" is relevant.

I really think if you all want to spend your time arguing over if it's an appeal or a contesting of a charge fair enough... <laugh>

Honestly who gives a bollocks lfc are out and that's all that matters to me, I could care less if Costa gets a ban or gets away with it

It's no more pointless an endeavour than say, suggesting starting line-ups and tactics, when nothing we discuss is going to influence the future.
Perhaps you don't care if Accosta gets away with it, obviously plenty of others do.
Anyway, stop being so grumpy- that's more my job.
