If you remember, Cortese was asked what he thought of Premier League players wages. He said they were extremely high. Asked if he would be prepared to pay a player a top salary in the PL, he said no. But he would if Saints got into the Champions League. Then he mentioned something about expansion of St Marys or a new stadium, but I might be getting my reports a little mixed there. What I'm alluding to is that there is a long term goal. Whether that is within 12 years, I don't know.
Yes I remember that, but I also remember hearing the 12-year plan thing. Don't remember details though so could be a crossed wire in my brain.
In many respects, your remarks about NC over the season have cemented my opinion of the guy. It's clear just how highly you regard him Fats and the feedback you gave contained absolutely none of the clichéd guff that you come to expect from many business leaders. In fact, quite the opposite. I thought he was very open with you. Add to that the fact that he was even holding a fans' reception anyway and it was clear to me that we had a very real deal in charge. I'm sure you'll meet him again and look forward to more harping!
Think NC was asked if he'd pay some vast wage to a player and extend the size of SMS. He replied yes, if we win the Champion's League. I am sure he was half-laughing so meant it as a joke. He doesn't realise that everything he says in written down by someone and widely circulated. We can trust this guy not to get too far ahead of himself and risk the club.
I am not going to get carried away and expect next season to be a hard learning curve for all of the staff. I think we are more than capable of surviving in the division but may suffer a few bad defeats. Eitherway I would expect some shrewd signings but not lots of cash being splashed, as that is why we have an academy that money is being poured into. If we are struggling around Christmas perhaps then we will see bigger changes?
He didn't say that.He said would he pay a player 150k a week?Not whilst we're playing in a 32k stadium,but when we're in a 50k stadium then maybe he will...something along these lines.
I mentioned Moses on another thread!! I wish! Do you think he has a better all-round game than Theo Walcott?
Correct, he didn't say what Fran was alluding to. He said something fairly close to what you've just written AB20, and I understand he wasn't joking either. This is where fans need to take a little step back and realise that we are not little Southampton anymore. We have been so steeped in our small club mentality, for so many years, because it was drummed into us by unambitious boardrooms and those without significant funds, that we dare not believe, or can't imagine, that anyone would want to come in and shake the place to its roots. Of course he won't get too far ahead of himself and risk the club. But this bloke is more ambitious than any of us. How does a club like Arsenal become a big club..? By being ambitious, making the right moves and becoming successful. How does a little club stay a little club..? By not being ambitious and missing the opportunity. This Chairman is used to being successful and he has big plans. Wake up Saints fans, the ship is about to come in, and it isn't the Titanic.
I don't know, maybe because they've been promoted so the premier league want to have a look now. Is that really all you're basing it on?
No,I read somewhere that he might not have the money that people thought he had.I may be wrong,we will see.
As long as the goings don't include Nigel. There's an elephant in the room! Nigel mentions that one day he will leave and the next day the WBA position looks like becoming vacant.
