More I would say, you can laugh at Farage. Were as everything Jordan says comes over as creepy and up himself.

 

I know someone who has met Simon. Said he was sound in real life but always comes across as a **** on TV. Who knows.

Time was when being slated was either getting a new roof, or then after many decades, being knock down a peg or two [o use another clichéd metaphor], but now it appears to be something written in chalk on a genuine slate bed blackboard.

I think the English language is finally evolving away from me and the truth is that I don't care anymore, and that's a sad time.

I live in a world where there are no longer the have and have-nots. They are the gots and don't-gots. I've forgotten how many times I've railed when I see someone write gotten, as if it exists as a word on its own [which unfortunately, it seems, it now does].
Even no less than Stephen Fry has no problem with swearing [or profanity, if you must], but I bet gotten would ****ing well stick in his throat.

I've never heard of slated used in this way either TSS.

I thought the idea of a film with Batman and Superman in sounded stupid anyway, so this doesn't make any difference to me. I'm sure I'll still see it at some point, but I won't be paying £10 to do so at the cinema.

I have just bought a Mnchesterv United Lamp.

It's a rather common and fairly old use of the word (in North America, at least), which I believe stems from politics: a party ticket is often referred to as their slate, and consequently someone nominated for a position is said to be slated. The use has duly spread to other, similar situations where an individual has been tipped for a position or role.

 

Is also used in the film industry where names are written on slates.

 

Oh jasper... That was being quoted about 3 months back along with the man Utd sledge you can buy your kids ... It goes down hill really quick.
