I would just like to say that you are all amateurs at this procrastination lark. I had a phone call I was supposed to make this morning which I only this second made, and that was only because this thread spurred me on to do it.

Been offered the job in Chelsea again. They said once I am back to work I can go up and talk to the area manager.

Missed a parcel this morning being delivered by ParcelForce. Normally, I'm out anyway, so if it's being delivered by them it goes back to the depot for collection 24 hours later. I know that depot well. Occasionally, it goes to my local post office, which means I can collect it the same day, generally after 3pm [so I know now].

Thing is, I wasn't absolutely sure of that then, so I rang the local PO with the number I found on the net. I got shunted from one voice to another with options for this or that. Just as I was being diverted down a particular dark and dingy cul-de-sac, never to return, it dawned, despairingly on me that I was getting absolutely nowhere. So I looked again on the net and found the local number for the PO [they don't make this plain], and low and behold, I got a very nice lady who put me straight. Yes, I could collect it after 3pm, as he'll [the postman] have finished his rounds by then, and do bring a little ID or some sort.

And relax. It took seconds. Real people can be so much better. Where is there somewhere that I can praise this woman for doing her job, nicely and properly..? Oh no, there won't be an option for doing that.

Do a selfie with her, then put it on a poster outside the post office.

Hmm, I was thinking more along the lines of a phone number where one can praise the level of service. I daren't try the number for complaints just in case I get into another endless loop of options or she gets a bad mark against her purely because I used the complaints number.

    I'll think about it.

Make sure you tell her when you go to collect the parcel.

Yeah, I will certainly be doing that, FLT. But I'd like it to count more than just making her feel she's doing well. I want the people who employ her to know as well.

Incidentally, if memory serves, this is the second or third time she has given me clear good advice and instruction. It's got to count.

In that case, write to the owners of the PO .. it is not us anymore :(

If you just give a general letter of praise about that individual at that Post office, it won't cause any issues in terms of the complaints procedure.

I wrote to Virgin after flying back from Kenya with the Saints Foundation. We were put on the plane and then had a 3 hour delay sat on the runway in Kenya. The Virgin girls were fantastic, joined in our sing song and even when some other grumpy passengers at the front complained about our singing, the Virgin team were excellent in how they asked us to keep a little quieter. They spoiled us with drinks and extra snacks because of it.

After I sent the email, I got a reply from Virgin saying that the girls remembered us and even mentioned the misery of the passengers that complained. It makes you feel good if nothing else :)

I'm not a watcher or fan of talent shows, especially the way they are presented these days, where the vehicle is really for the celebrity judge and not much more that that, but I got this off my motorcycle forum, where there are several bikers coughing and spluttering while trying not to be wusses. :)

Astonishing. I know a little bit about voice production, and that girl just doesn't look as though she has the support (i.e. the diaphragm) for such a big voice. And such a mature performance too.

And yes, I must admit my eyes were leaking a little bit too.

The Spanish may very well have a word for it, but working for a French division of a company, I can tell you now the French live it... they can't even be arsed to have a word for it :)

Exactly. It's quite astonishing, the depth and quality that she achieves, so that the emotion of the piece is all there. And yep, same problem with the leaks.
