    Just to put things in perspective, reports coming from Germany that Michael Schumacher may be in a coma for the rest of his life. Horrible if true.

    Good grief, that probably means they have tried to bring him out of the induced coma and he isn't responding. Or that the brain damage caused by the accident is more extensive than they feared. Amazing that only moments after the accident he was suggesting to people that he was fine. Our bodies immune systems can sometimes become our worst enemy.

    Nevertheless, he may come out of it. Let's hope so.

    Yes sounds like the damage may be worse than first thought, although reading the various outlets reporting it, they do seem to be jumping to this conclusion because of the silence from the family and lack of progressive news from the medical staff (albeit with the supportive quotes of various neurosurgeons).

    The quote I read was based on talking to "experts". Seems to me they've asked some doctors who said "sometimes with injuries this bad, they may never come out of comas" which does technically mean Schumacher may remain in a coma for life, rather than it actually being based on evidence from Schumi's camp.

    Yep, though they are also saying that in the main there should be signs of improvement, and that ideally you wouldn't want someone in an induced coma for anything more than 2 weeks.

    Feared this because there were no regular updates and a few days ago he was being assessed to see what parts of his brain were alive. Dreadful if true...worse than a death for the family.

    Yes, he died of pancreatic cancer which is a pretty horrible way to go. Very sad end to a very funny man.
