All the experts say world population will plateau at around 8-9 million and then begin to fall.

Hmm, I see no evidence of that. We'd better hope they're right. I wouldn't like to see some Malthusian nightmare unfold, and at present in several ways, we are heading in that direction.

I'll pass if I can. It's already killing people in China but atm hasn't got air born. If it does which by caculations by people who are far more brainy then myself will happen. It will lead to a massive loss of life, specially for the poorer countries obviously.

Stop beating yourself up old chap.

When was a young man my education didn't cost me any money but clearly my parents and other earners were paying for it through their tax. When I married I had to save like mad for a mortgage and then furnished my home with hand me downs, borrowed Items and second hand items. The only thing new was the bed. I started saving for a pension when I was 16 on my father's advice and it was the best advice I ever had. My mother outlived my father by twenty years and when she died all I inherited was my father's pocket watch and my mother's family photographs. Because of my financial position I have been able to give my daughters the sort of help when thy married that I could only dream of when I was young. The one thing I am confident about is that my daughters will inherit a substantial amount when Mrs Godders and I die as no doubt will a lot of today's young people when they lose their parents.

So TSS stop giving them more excuses to whinge and moan.

Life is tough. It always has been.

I don't carry any guilt just for living...everyone has the right to be alive whether you are 8 or 80. We are all part of humanity. I've paid my way all my life...yes, I was lucky to live at a time of free education, but I lived at a time where they weren't daft enough to think that University suits everyone. I don't believe this business that the young are worse off...they just have high expectations...I studied, worked through the holidays, and probably went out once a fortnight....certainly had no money for a holidays, meals out, latest gizmos, or drinking sessions. Some students in the sixties certainly did, but not those without rich parents. Cut your cloth according to your means.

I have spent years trying to tell my Dad to go enjoy himself. When Mum was alive I told them to sell the house, retire and go spend some money. My Dad has now retired, although he still does odd jobs for people, but he refuses to sell his house (I understand, Englishman, castle, home!) as he says he wants to leave it so my sisters and I will have something when he goes. I told him we all have houses and by the tie he parts (hopefully a few years yet) I would have paid my mortgage. He won't have it. I so wish he'd sell, by something smaller as he doesn't need a family home anymore and spend some money enjoying himself.

I agree with most of this Fran. The only subject where I think yoof of today have a reason to grumble is house buying. What is the average salary today, 28k? Average house price 170k? That makes it difficult for a lot of young people to buy a house.

The population boom is in part due to the fact that people in the third world expect to lose children...it has been shown that birth control becomes more popular once children start surviving. The parents then have higher hopes for their children and want to invest in their education. They therefore want fewer children. Large families tend to occur in poorer areas where children are seen as earners and your pension for the future.

Nah it just got a little too real for me. Beefy's should be about chatting about random crap and laughing at how insane some public figures are. :p

My parents place is now worth 240k, they only brought it a few years back for 170k. They have only kept the house modern and replaced the kitchen nothing that big. It's crazy how much prices have shot up.
