A lot of people were very much against the sacking of Nigel Adkins, and rightly sung his name, but provided a positive atmosphere for the team on Monday.

I heard a group of people trying to get the Cortese chant going at one stage, with a fair few faces turning round in disapproval.

I think a lot of fans have overlooked the contribution Cortese has given to the club.

So following Adkins' sacking, are you still with Cortese, or was it one step too far?
 
Nor sure I've haerd fans of any club chanting the name of their Chairman in a nice way. Doesn't mean they are not supported.
 
The reality is if we want the best for our team we have little to no choice but to back him and the team. It doesn't mean we agree with his decision but if he proves us wrong, then so be it and I like most others will say so. In truth I hope he is right and we are wrong or at least it doesn't prove to be the disaster that it could be, according to most of the so called experts.
As others have said he hasn't put a foot wrong so far, so he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt IMO.
 
I did give my reasons on a previous thread as to why I think Cortese should stay. I still believe he should and amlooking forward to the future he plans for this club.

There was a lot of emotion on the day Nigel got sacked because he seemed like a nice man doing a good job. Having worked in industry I have witnessed a few nice people lose their jobs on a Friday morning and asked to leave without the opportunity to say goodbye to colleagues. Always seems harsh but am not sure there is a nice way to sack someone. Obviously they don't leave with the high profile of a football manager.

Anyway, I am getting the feeling that some people are getting excited about Mauricio, which while I thought Adkins was very competant as a manager I wouldn't have decribed him as exciting.

Looking forward to wine and tapas with Mauricio having had a very nice tea and cake with Nigel.
 
Unfortunately (IMO) Adkins has gone & now he's history ! Might seem bit harsh but that's the reality. Not a lot different when Pardew left, really. We've now got to give MP full backing & that's goes for NC, as before & again now. It was certainly a bold decision by NC. He's no mug & he's got his reasons. The easiest decision would have been to stay with NA & keep his fingers crossed - we know, he's not like that ! Hopefully, it'll pan out similar to the start of the NA era & go forth from there. COYR.
 
The truth is we were all, or most of us were anyway, comfortable with Nigel Adkins. He gave us a great couple of years and some wonderful memories. The overall experience since rejoining the Premier league hasn't been so comfortable however, and we have all had our moments of anger or bewilderment at particular moments, especially when we have been thrashed (Leeds, Chelsea, but not Arsenal) or lost or drawn games when we could have won (Man U, Stoke, Arsenal again). My theory is that Nicola Cortese wants to remove those uncomfortable experiences for us as fans and himself as CEO as much as possible. Obviously whatever happens we will still have times when we lose games we should have won and so on but Nicola's plan is to keep moving us steadily towards that promised land of Champions League football at Southampton. To do that he has had to remove us from our comfort zone, hopefully temporarily, and change the team management structure in a radical way. He will bear the total responsibility if he has made a mistake but I believe he deserves our support for taking such a risk. For what it's worth, he has mine anyway.
 
It isn't a popularity competition, this is business, you don't have to like your CEO for what he is, or for even what he does sometimes, if he is instrumental in the Clubs survival and future success, you have to lower your moral stance and go along with it.

Yes, full backing form me. Your poll though asks if Cortese has the fans' backing, whereas I can only vote that he has my backing.

Had the poll been "Do you like Nocola Cortese", I suspect it would read somewhat differently, but that isn't the question, hence the response.
 
The timing and the manner (as far as we know) of the sacking of Adkins was unfortunate but I have and always will back Cortese 100%. Every decision he has made since he came here has been for the benefit and progress off Southampton Football Club. We may question his methods at times but I can't see how we can question his passion.

I don't post here often but had to say I couldn't agree more. Cortese get's my vote. He's not afraid to make unpopular decisions if he's convinced it's the way to go.

Even though I'm gutted Nigel Adkins is gone he will deal with the situation in the way he deals with everything else. He'll be fine.

What's really pissed me off the in last few days is number of gobshites in the media and fans from other clubs mouthing Saints off because of Nigel Adkins sacking. It's none of their business. Cortese may be a hard headed bastard but he's our hard headed bastard.
 
To nit pick does this mean do we think Cortese has the backing of the fan base or do we personally back Cortese?
 
He doesn't need our backing, he needs the Liebherr family's, and it looks like he's got that. I'm not exactly aglow with love for the bloke, but I do begrudgingly respect the fact that he doesn't seem to give a monkey's what any of us think.
