The first two constructions, bored with and bored by, are the standard ones. The third, bored of, is more recent than the other two and it’s become extremely common. In fact, the Oxford English Corpus contains almost twice as many instances of bored of than bored by. It represents a perfectly logical development of the language, and was probably formed on the pattern of expressions such as tired of or weary of. Nevertheless, some people dislike it and it’s not fully accepted in standard English.

It doesn't help that this dirty laundry gets aired on Soccer Saturday a few times, so we'll inevitably get the naive morons come on here saying we're stupid for treating Matt the way we are.

Le tiss is arguably as important as NC and Liebherr in getting us where we are today. Had we been relegated in the Dell and then got in financial problems we could have ended up like pompey. I dont know the story but MLT is our greatest ever player and a huge huge legend of the club to say oh well he should just be treated like everyone else is abit silly really. But yeh I dont know what happened and there both legends of the club but find it sad that people think if they like Cortese they have to disrespect Le tiss, the player who makes up a huge part of our history!

Its all handbags really. Le Tiss using twitter to have a pop at Cortese is wrong but I guess he is agrieved at things that have happened and wants to get his side across. Nicola on the other hand probably doesn't really care too much and is creating a new Southampton the way he wants it and probably feels a lot of old faces around the club no matter who they are keep us in the past where success was deemed as finishing 17th in the Premier League (1976 apart).

To the fans Le Tis, Benali and Lawrie Mac are all legends for what they gave to the club over the years but from the outside looking in Nicola may not see that their achievments warrant legend status. Nicola is aiming for us to be one of the best clubs in the country and to win things, maybe helping a club avoid relegation for so many years does not count as success or an achievment to him.
Its similar to changing to the red shirt, he's not sentimental its business and if he believes a new strip for a new top flight team helps then so be it.

Yes. The most basic explanation is... it sounds poor. All you have to remember is to type bored with, rather than bored of, and then you're instantly welcomed into the old codgers correct English, of which I am so fond, but not a founder member. :)

Afterward we can get into should've, could've, would've instead of the incorrect, but unfortunate common use of should of, could of, would of, and all that. But first things first. And don't worry about starting sentences with AND and BUT. Charles Dickens did it, and that's good enough for me, if not for the odd ancient English teacher. ;)

I totally agree that MLT should not use his time on air to view his personal opinion of this situation, a situation he is not doing anything to improve by his snide remarks. What did this start over? His having to put his money in his pocket and pay for his seat like everyone else.

What seems to be the trend nowadays is write about it, maybe he should take advice from Rooney and write a book stating how he has made a mistake.

Have no idea what Cortese is really like, but him being a lovely person would just be the icing on the cake. He runs our club well and has brought us success. MLT would do better to maintain his dignity.

There is far too much negativity towards Matt Le Tiss on this forum. For a player that demonstrated high levels of loyalty and almost single handedly saved the club from relegation on numerous occasions, it's about time fans started showing him the same loyalty.

Posting petty comments on twitter is unnecessary, but understandable particularly considering the way he has been shunned by the team he did so much for.

Cortese has done a good job so far (with a lot of financial backing)but both cortese and liebherr dont have any affinity with Southampton. If stoke city were in league one 3 years ago, they would have chosen them. Southampton FC is a business opportunity for cortese and was a plaything for liebherr and when something better comes along Cortese will take it. Le Tiss will always be a saint

Come on People... Matt LeTiss.....was a very talented footballer for Saints. As others have said he single handily saved this club from relegation on more than one occasion. However he did does have his faults too.......on the field of play he was known as a lazy player. Hence why he wasn't called up for the England team as often as his talents warranted. A lot of his managers were frustrated that he would not train more and do more on the pitch. So he does have a stubborn streak as well, that is plain to see. Trouble is he has met a chairman equally as stubborn and equally as pedantic. In reality neither are wrong the gulf between them cannot be bridged. We as fans can only be disappointed at this. The likes of Terry Paine, Mickey Channon, Martin Chivers, George O'Brian or Martin O'Neil all of whom have been seen at St Mary's recently do not seem to have a problem with Cortese at all. In-fact from my conversations from two of these quite like him and get on well. So the reality for me then is it is just a clash of personality. As for the rules regarding season ticket holders not allowing others to use your card for what ever reason that as they say is the rules. Other wise you would be getting a lot of people getting reduced prices for people not entitled to those reductions. However it is possible that on this occasion somehow it was spotted just unlucky.

Ah yes, how dare anyone slag off Cortese

He has a right to opinion, whether it should be over Twitter or not is another matter

As I said before though, I can see both sides of (a very very petty) argument

I think it is sad that Le Tiss and Cortese don't seem to get on, as Matt is Southampton through and through and Cortese is our Clubs saviour and future.
Its a shame someone involved with the club cant get the two together, Cortese always looks like a coiled spring ready to go, so maybe Matt ought to take him out on the golf course and get him to unwind slowly.

I know Cortese has a very genuine caring side from a couple of instances i know of, so a more cheerful looking Cortese and Le Tiss sat side by side at a game would bring a smile to every Saints fans face.

I don't think Saints fans should judge either as we will never know all the facts and both are and have been important to the club.

Never take sides in this sort of spat as it is impossible for us to have all of the information needed in order to decide which of the protaganists is in the wrong. What I will say is that Matt's behaviour is not very dignified and he is making himself look rather silly and it is for this that I criticise him and the fact that his behaviour reflects badly on our club.

Matt should take a leaf out of Channon's book and talk enthusiastically about the team and leave it at that.

Admit it Fran, you're a little bit in love with Nicola. You're right about Matty though. Not really conducting himself in a dignified manner, and it would be a great shame were he to tarnish his legend.

Not really taking sides tbh, just find Le Tiss a twat using Soccer Saturday, Twitter and his pal sterling to bitch at Cortese every few months.

Then agreeing with people that call him a legend and we should take his side. Yes he was a very good player for us probably the best, but I bet he was getting paid well for it.

Best money he was on was £8000 a week, plus bonuses, in the mid-90s.

Well, to put it into perspective, there was a time when I out-earned him, so to speak. Just for a for few months. Not exactly the sort of fact you'd expect to find on a football forum from an average person, in comparison to one of the greatest Premier League players ever. Do you not think..? :)
