Without Cortese we wouldn't have had Liebherr.

Hmm interesting point, though you could say there were infinite possible outcomes before they came into the picture.

Dan is right. It was Cortese who started the whole thing off. If his attention had been elsewhere, SFC would either be owned by Pinnacle, or someone else, or be the remains of a football club that nobody was interested in enough to save. Nicola has been the prime mover in all things. He needed to convince his friend to help him realise his dream, as to do it properly would be too much for any personal fortune he might have. Personally, I think Markus Liebherr knew very well that he wasn't going to be around for many years and he wanted to do something different. Plus he wanted to do something for his great friend, and it all came together. And he made sure his family would back Nicola when he had gone.

On the Cortese - Le Tissier front. I think all parties should get around the table, apologise to each other, and start afresh. Matty needs to know that this is a new era, and whatever Nicola reasonably asks, he needs to accept.

Why does Cortese always look like a miserable old git everytime he is shown on sky when he is at St Mary's, like today?I think he once said that he gets very, very nervous when he watches us and he wakes up at 5am on matchdays sweating <laugh>.

    Thought you knew this Joe.

Cortese and Markus Liebherr had already known about the saints years before we went into admin, but only when the opportunity arouse did they make their interest clear they then decided to buy the club.Nicola Cortese suggested the idea to Markus and they both decided to buy the club.

That's exactly it. I saw a camera shot of him during the game and he looked positively ill with it. We were leading at the time. Yes, he has said that on match days he is terrible to live with and gets incredibly nervous. At least we know he cares a great deal about his baby. ;)

Yeahh I was mainly just going for the whole "it was Markus's money" thing. Dan's right that Cortese conducted the deal for Markus.

It amazes me that he can withstand watching our matches.

There is a lot on the line. I imagine it feels like putting all your money on red and watching the roulette wheel spin for 90 minutes.

It was and is Markus's money, but he never controlled the club all he did was travel to Southampton every other week to watch some home games and then he would go back to Switzerland.

You can't bring them back. The best you can do is appreciate people while they are around the place.

Bored with this now. Cortese hates Le Tissier, and the feelings are mutual. Don't bore me with tweets about it, Matt, unless you want to take charge of the club and do a better job than Cortese.

Cortese acts with dignity but unfortunately Matt has behaved like a prima donna.

    Dear Matt

People's opinions of you are seriously deteriorating. No one is denying what a great player and admirable person you have been to have as part of this club, but this is becoming childish now.

Please see that people are fond of the direction we are moving now and we are looking towards a bright future while you are still trying to dig up the past.

Reputation takes years to build, but seconds to lose...

    Bored WITH this now. ;)

I don't think Cortese hates Matty, but he probably wonders why MLT so constantly tries to undermine him. The fact is, Matty is a Legend, and I don't overuse that word, by any means. But Cortese is in charge, AND has the vast majority of support of Southampton supporters because we're not dense. We KNOW that Cortese is doing great things for the Club and will continue to do great things. This is a new Southampton FC, and it is definitely one for the better than it used to be. Matty needs to realise that the vast majority are on board the bus. It's time for him to buy a ticket too, instead of complaining about the price.
