If you are going to fix matches surely one must go for short odds accumulators rather than long odds upsets. Basically a treble with say Man U to beat Villa, Man City to beat Reading and Real Madrid to beat Espaniol wouldn't raise too many eyebrows. If the results of the matches are predetermined the odds don't matter. Organised criminals can afford to front up a decent stake. It also launders dodgy money. Once you have a cheque from a bookie, that money is clean and tax free.

IF it is the game in question I'd say it was a combination of poor finishing, defenders getting in the way and not making it obvious that it's rigged

I think it's quite funny that Liverpool played Debrechen, at home, with their 'keeper trying to fix the game and the still only won 1-0 :D

Tbh, the final result is not the only thing to bet on.

Luke, you are naive to think a CL is 'too well watched'. Its the 'bet in play' options, cards, corners in fact just about anything these days! You like your cricket, the Pakistan test matches were rigged with no-balls.

Anything is do-able!

YV - quite right, they had 9 attempts on target as I pointed out earlier...8 must have been saved/blocked!

You have to remember what counts as a shot, too. Some of them are basically backpasses and it would look ridiculous to let one of them in. Unless you're Taibi...

The article was excellent reading

" the people behind the match fixing bemoaned the fact Steven Gerrard missed some presentable chances against Debrecen.

Poleksic has since subsequently been banned from all football activities for failing to report match fixing activities." (seemingly implying that if he'd run over to UEFA and said, "Oh, by the way, I took money to throw a match," everything would have been fine. Maybe it would have been, for all I know....

The answer to how can you rig games when it seems so difficult to do so successfully seems to be "not very well." Bribing the keeper and taking the over on the over under line would seem to be a good plan, however...
it appears they forgot their keeper makes it clear he can't be trusted by taking their money, and they make clear they deserve to get ripped off when they fork it over.
