We are in unprecedented times but I can’t help but feel that the government is trying to beat this virus using a cricket bat.
Lockdowns cost absolutely LOADS of money - not to mention the misery and mental anguish they cause.
Surely the ‘smart’ way to ‘manage’ the virus would have been to spend a few £million on improving testing centre capacity, so that we could keep a record of who had the virus and where they lived, and track the spread. Compulsory weekly testing for everyone with a certificate which you show on the door of a pub, restaurant, bus, train or airline.
No. Not this shower. It’s lockdown - FAR more costly and far LESS effective.
..... but far less planning effort involved I suppose for a lazy, incompetent regime.
This government does my head in.

Its ok, the virus only comes out after 10 O'clock so if we are all home by then we will be fine

Pubs and Restaurants closing 10pm because everyone knows Covid comes out after 10m only.
Rule of 6? Nothing was mentioned about that changing as he went straight on to talk about sorry weddings are restricted to 15.

You’re right - I was having a rant.
It’s still a ‘blunt instrument’ though.
It would be smarter to expand testing and know who has the disease and who doesn’t.

They said yesterday that the chance of antibodies lasting against reinfection is only 8%
To me this is a warning, I think we’re entering a hard winter. Testing has been crap, but that is not the reason why it’s not gone. The drink has made us turn back to thinking it’s gone.

ONLY 8% OF THE POPULATION has them, although in some people it is a short term thing, couple of month's... some are still working after 5 months

One other thing, this certificate you mentioned. Is that not the same as an MOT. All it says is at that time your car passed, but the next day it can still be unsafe.
A certificate will be rendered useless if you get one, see a mate for a coffee in a Covid secure place but they are carrying the virus. No mask needed in a drinking environment and they cough. Or like one of the places currently in lock down where the spread was caused by a worker carrying it to a pub where she worked.

The 500,000 idiots who thronged to Bournemouth beach all at the same time a few weeks ago, the out of control house parties in Greater Manchester (in particular) with 200 plus guests all over each other multiple times over, the illegal raves in Bath, Wales, London attracting tens of thousands of people, and those who still refuse to wear a face mask in shops and on buses are surely all large factors in the latest spike.

I'm still of the opinion that we're probably all breathing the virus (we surely must be?) and we will build up immunity to it eventually ?

So why not try and get on with life with Social Distancing being enforced in the meantime before millions more jobs are lost.

Inclined to agree, to an extent. it goes back to the original [ March ] comments in how we get it ...take breathing in …. eg ,...an infected exhaled breath may contain 100 viral cells, 30 people in an enclosed space or up close, in 60 breath's [2 mins?] 6000 cells available? 29 people would / could share say 1/4 of these in 60 breaths [ people spaced out ] = 1500/29 = 50 but breath out recirculate most of them, law of diminuishing returns and leave the space with say just 0-10 ? causing a mild body reaction …………. anyone close could absorb /breathe in maybe up to 2000 ? and leave the room /space with maybe 0 - 2000? a violent body reaction
the first instance 0 -10 could be a very mild attack as body has resource to combat a few … greater numbers overwhelm anti body production and serious attack …

of course it is not known how many viral cells get breathed in and out, but the more infected the greater the number … maybe the mass spraying by the Chinese … and it was everything as they drove down roads people included .. helped supress the spread in the air? After all they do say you can get the cells by breathing in air from 5m away [ instant cough/sneeze ] but what about the cells lingering in the air? minutes hours etc after? ...have we all breathed some? and has the body started the anti body process???

A month ago there was newspaper article, that stated that people from Asian backgrounds were up to 60% more likely to contract the virus and the article right next to that one listed the areas where the R rate was out of control and guess what?......................................................................................................

it is true of not just ASIANS.... but Black people as well unfortunately for them. Good session on BEEB THIS PM was working in the kitchen and listened … rules regulations via Q's .. 2 scientists answering …
only thing I didn't quite get was … 6 people walking down the street bump into 2 other "friends" can they chat to each other? answers were NO they would have to break off into another group of 6 [or 2 groups?]

?? so 30 people in a park [5 groups] a couple or so could say cheerio to the group they are in and go form another group of 6 maybe from say 3 groups????

I get what you are saying, however Sweden who kept to the herd mentality route and never closed schools, bars or restaurants etc. just observed social distancing, state that not one child died from covid.

We’ve got 616 per million deaths whilst Sweden has 581.
Given that they are not populated country compared to ours, their herd immunity is working well.
I think we can safely say herd community has got us to this second wave.

My post was not about herd immunity per se, it was in response to the point about kids and schools.

We have started to see a significant rise in reported cases over here in Canada and if it continues on this upward trend then we can look forward to a bleak winter. There have been 2 major sources of infections and I don't find it at all surprising that the prime suspects are the 20-30 year olds who insist on still partying with large unprotected crowds and ply themselves with booze to warrant their absolute stupidity. The fact of the matter is they don't give a rat's arse who they infect as long as they can indulge in their apparent rights at the expense of others who actually bother to follow the simple rules.

The second cause of problems are the ethnic communities whose families live in multiple family groups, and social distancing will never be part of their hereditary lifestyle, and I'm not quite sure how that can be addressed without the usual cries of intolerance. I fear that here in Canada we have many of the issues that are raising their heads in the U.K. and we, like you, forgot to address the critical choices that needed attention in a proper orderly fashion and now we must pay the price.
I am fortunate enough to live on an island that is away from the mainland and it's major urban areas and although that might give me a false sense of security I stick to a bubble of about 6 people and always wear my mask when anywhere near other people.

which may well be true but how many relatives, acquaintance's and teachers died after interaction with children?

your post states Sweden followed the herd immunity route and ROD IS RIGHT... it doesn't really work... it has not for them. When you consider the population density it certainly is a big big failure …….
