So Omicron is more transmissable than the Delta but far milder. Virologists suggesting it could be a blessing in disguise as the milder variant pushes out the nastier one.
Very early days, so we can't really say that yet, but would be good if true.

I've listened to a couple of doctors now (including the one in Pretoria who discovered the new strain) and a virologist and it seems to have one main symptom, extreme fatigue.
It's far far too soon to say.
We need to see the full 4 week do dah of this variant and see it hit older people.
It's not even a couple weeks but the South Africans started screaming the minute countries reacted so we need the real data here.

Omicron variant. I understand the symptoms are mild compared with the original virus from China. Some people are so scared to be vaccinated, because they believed they want to use it control the population. I already had the booster as well as the flu jab and there is no adverse effect ."Cowards die many times before their death". We are bound to die anyway!.
Need the hard data not opinion on effect of this variant. Too many want to shout mild before theres any data.
Early indications are omnicron is highly infectious and it really seems to breeze through groups such as this group at a party that claim to all be vaccinated or the group on the plane.
I would query if there was any mask wearing or distancing at all.

At least 68 staff at a Spanish hospital’s intensive care unit in Málaga have tested positive for Covid-19 after going to a Christmas party.
Health authorities investigating the outbreak suspect the virus may have been spread at a party attended by more than 170 people last Wednesday.
At least half of those in attendance were isolating after coming into close contact with the medics who contracted the virus.
The infected staff were all fully vaccinated and are showing no symptoms, health authorities said.
Most of them are ICU doctors and nurses who took negative antigen tests before the event.
The large outbreak has heightened concerns about the risk of spreading Covid at social events during the Christmas period.
Hospital staff in Andalusia had been advised not to attend Christmas parties to mitigate that risk.
On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged people to not "let their guard down" to Covid over the holidays.
just remember an antigen test is pretty ****ing useless. the accuracy on a negative test is at best sketchy and all it tells you is at best right then you are not contagious... maybe. especially as you have no idea if you apply it right etc.
If someone says antigen tests are the answer in schools and for all sorts of social events this story should be told to them.
the real benefit of an antigen test is when you test positive and don't go to a party and then book your PCR test to confirm and get into the NHS books.
the very worst thing imo is people thinking they are "negative" and dropping all social distancing/mask wearing and so forth as a result.
Hopefully the anti viral pills will come on stream fully soon and all positive PCR tests will get a delivery to their door and a 5 day course ends most icu/deaths/hospitalisations.
The flow for me is non-symptomatic antigen positive/symptomatic people flow to a timely PCR test, The PCR flows to medication delivery in a timely fahsion and then people isolate and come out fine the other end over the course of 10 days.
I wonder would all the anti vaxxers pop the two pills or woudl that be "too experimental"

The thing about these people talking and mandatory or enforced vaccinations really ought to think hard.
The WHO person and that von der Leyen EU one need to go read the Nuremberg code and the Helsinki declaration and figure out why the concept of consent is so fundamental.
Imo anti vaxxers are self harmers and morons as they are also hurting people with cancer and al sorts of diseases and illnesses who need the beds in hospitals but it is deeply unethical to throw out the principles that arise from the heinous actions of the likes of menegle

It always made sense and taking it away then putting it back is plain silly.
Imo far too much is made of masks with absolutely no consistency
For example: cloth masks are worthless. But people are so afraid to say it they say any mask is better than no mask. Wrong. No mask =I walk away. Staff with this ****e masks behind tills are worse than useless.
They dont fit, the front is wide open at the top as they are not tight.
Or the I'll wear it but nose is out or it's a chin warmer. Etc.
Imo we got out of wave 1 without masks so the masks are really an add on not be all and end all. As the weight of cases have increased now they are required.
But not in open air. Utterly pointless. We know its inside they are needed.
Vaccination proof is just an arm twist to anti vax morons. We have to assume the random person we meet has nothing and treat them accordingly.
I can't speak about the UK but in the US antivax is linked with Republican party and their denial that the virus was real/a threat during the Trump era.
They refused to get vaccinated because it legitimized the virus and made Trump look bad. Once they took the line "vaccine bad" they became stuck in that mode.
Now Trump is no longer in power, I can see a good many of them being more willing to try new treatments. Some of them are still stuck on the "virus is fake" line though.
The sad fact is they still have not killed enough of each other to tip the balance of power.

Tbf it was the Democrats who did everything they could to undermine public confidence in the vaccine and started the politicisation of it. They drew the line in the sand and people picked their side and have stayed there.
