Another Blair in the making, he won't offer too much to the working classes.

We need a movement for change outside of party politics, and soon.

More chance of Newcastle getting CL football than a vaccine being developed

'Larry Brilliant'. Come on, that's a fake name! Seriously, well yeah, as this article says, there is no panacea. But the young and healthy will get one type of vaccine to limit its spread, the old and vulnerable another to limit its lethality. Running alongside, as now, will be continued development of better vaccines, but the story of AIDS, which is the same family of viruses, is sobering, isn't it?

Could it be true that the more we try to eliminate it, the more it will mutate like super rats do to poison? Or do we just slowly assimilate it, as this says, so that one day it ranks alongside a bad cold or hay fever? In the future though, whilst people can develop new habits, you can't change the physical nature of buildings, cities, public transport and so forth forever so that people remain two metres apart indefinitely. The vulnerable, as now with flu vaccines, will have to be protected as best we can, and the general population immunised or not and progressively developing their own immunity. I think the development of tests progressively showing an individual's resistance, and coupled to the latest strains, is the only way forward, with a raft of measures available.

Going to get very Darwinian, isn't it?

Having been worried about Covid19 and scared by everything being reported in the mainstream about it, I took to following the science. The coronavirus has been around a long time. I read an academic paper from 1982 about the effects of temperature on coronavirus which says that it doesn't do well in high temperatures but in an experiment that involved freezing and thawing the virus 12 times, the virus still survived albeit with 50% potency. That's why viruses in general and this one particularly appear seasonally.

Viruses mutate to survive. The current Covid virus has already mutated 7,327 times (according to University of Glasgow Virus Research Centre) which hasn't altered it at all biologically as it is still regarded as the same strain of the virus. What that means longer term, I don't know. I keep reading about vaccines being close to testing stages but all the scientists I've listened to seem to agree that there may never be a vaccine. That in itself could be a worry, but as one pointed out, there is no vaccine for HIV or HepC. They are easier to avoid though.

While some individuals have an innate uninfectability, others have an innate susceptibility - it's in your genes. The problem with that is you don't know if you fall into either of those categories. The vast majority won't be in either group and that's where the worry is - not knowing how you as an individual will respond. You can't do anything about your age but you can eat a good diet, watch your weight and do age appropriate exercise all of which gives you a better chance of fighting off viruses.

Btw, I was going to self-isolate back in March, probably should have. But one reason I didn't was that the dog needed looking after. Could I have driven him over to my closest family in Liverpool, 100 miles away, to look after him? Funny watching Dan Hodges on Sky trying to defend him before, until Reeta Chackrabarty throw a bomb at Cummings story. He claimed his wife had the virus, but he didn't (or it wasn't confirmed) but was developing symptoms when he made the trip to Durham: but hang on - his missus said Cummings came down with confirmed Covid within days of her.

Suddenly it hit Hodges, like a man who'd just heard the click of a triggered land mine under his feet.' Well, er, I don't care what his wife said, just what Dominic said, and if he, er, said he had to go to Durham, he didn't go just to the view from out of the window!'. Completely missing the point that anybody who did self-isolate and didn't travel 100's of miles to see their extended family would have also been able to claim that they weren't crossing the country to see the bloody view out of the window either, but nonetheless they still stayed home and followed the rules.

There are folk who are single parents, older parents, carers, foster parents, even grandparents who are guardians of young children, who would've been in the exact same position with not 1 child but even 2 or 3. And they would've felt forced to accept the instructions given and self-isolate with them. And been led to believe that taking the kids to their grandparents was an insane thing to do anyway.

But now Schapps in his desperate attempt to defend that **** is telling everyone - it was always up to each individual to do what they want <doh> These ****s just make it up as they go along.

And people talk about the string of contradictions this government has come out with from day one of this pandemic.

Well that's just the ****ing cherry on top of the turd: Anita Boateng, special advisor to the Tories, has just said on Sky 'It's ALWAYS been about using your common sense'. Unbefuckinglievable. They took a kid in a car with TWO infected adults (or so they themselves believed) and passed him on to others. But it's a witchhunt to describe it as anything else. ****ing humbug.

Not sure how true this is, but if it is then Bojo is going to look like a right tw@t

Devastating new claims have emerged that Dominic Cummings further breached the lockdown rules, as Downing Street came under sustained pressure to fire the prime minister’s most senior adviser.

The new testimony suggests Cummings left the home where he was staying in Durham to visit a town 30 miles away.

As Cummings faced calls to resign from across the political spectrum, the government was forced to defend his actions. Ministers insisted he had stayed put once arriving at a property in Durham, where he had travelled after contracting the symptoms of coronavirus to seek the support from his extended family.

Cummings was seen by a witness in Barnard Castle on Easter Day, 30 miles away from Durham. The town, which takes its name from the English Heritage site at its centre, is a popular destination for days out<laugh>

Robin Lees, 70, a retired chemistry teacher from the town, says he saw Cummings and his family walking by the Tees before getting into a car around lunch time on 12 April.

    And it gets worse....

After returning to London once Cummings had recovered he went back to Durham on 19th April when the Stay At Home Lockdown was still on.

Dan Hodges has already lobbed it. He’s said he should have been sacked for the herd immunity thing, so he was right all along lol.

Did you see him on Sky News before (before the second leg of Cummings tour was announced anyway)? Reeta Chackrabarti (or Shami, as Dull used to confuse her with), just asked a simple question about why Cummings' missus had contradicted his story - even his glass eye nearly started weeping.

    Edit: BBC news

I haven't seen the news at all today except Schapps denying everything. One thing we've learned about the right wing mantra...

If you don't like what the doctors are saying on PPE... ignore the argument and blame the doctors.
If you don't like the stats on deaths.... ignore the argument and question the data.
If you don't like what the teachers are telling you.... ignore the argument and blame the teachers.
If you don't like what the scientific evidence is telling you.... ignore the argument and blame the scientists.

If you don't like the facts about Cummings.... ignore the argument and question the facts.

I've noticed this happens every time. They won't engage in a response, just deny that what's being said is true. It's a carry over from Brexit and they use it in everything now.

Saxton has helpfully deflected all questions by providing a helicopter view of the grounds of Scummings' parents' home, which put an end to all questions bar one - why did he have to drive 240 miles to be holed up in isolation on his parents' estate with his wife and kid when he had the exact same conditions in London? Oh, it was so that his sister could deliver them meals.

Yeah, that's put that evil, crazed leftie story to bed then...

Aldo killed him beautifully yesterday, so much so he didn't reply until today. What Aldo said about him having all his minions in London to bring his shopping was spot on. People are so dumb or just choose to be.

Mate, trump started this ****e and shows how good a tactic it is.

Anything vaguely against them gets pasted as fake news and held up as proof of a conspiracy against you. Its ****ing ingenious. It makes any opposition look shady and dishonest, while strengthening a siege mentality in your support.

Once it's gone on for long enough, it's easier and easier to brush **** off, pass it away as an unwarranted attack.

I'm unsure if it's ever been used before, or it works so well now only because of social media. Either way it's an absolutely brilliant strategy.

Tbh I think it's not that far off fascism.

I know it's easy to quote the nazi's but isnt that exactly what they used to do?

Even when they know the opposition is making a rational point, one which is correct, they feel it's irrelevant compared to the greater cause - their own agenda.

In this case the greater cause is the long-term right wing nationalist agenda Cummings can deliver.

Do you know I've just finished watching a show on the history channel about nazi propaganda and your bang on.

Pick a popular cause and run with it. Tell the country they deserve better and its someone elses fault they are in the ****. If you get attacked, you can point the finger and tell the populace its proof that they are being held back.

I've said it before and I'll say it again democracy doesnt work.
