In terms of the A level results tomorrow I think the entire issue of grades and how they’ve been calculated etc is largely moot anyway. As unless pupils miss their offer grades by a country mile, it’ll largely make no difference as the Uni’s are ****ing desperate for numbers due to the massive drop off in the more lucrative overseas students.
Looks like there's a lot of country miles! What a fcking shambles. As a parent whose children will soon be doing their gcse's and A levels, I'd be absolutely cut up for my kids if this was being done to them.
Some unis (or at least a few of the Oxbridge colleges) are taking matters into their own hands and disregarding this utterly out of his depth education secretary’s decisions. Others aren’t so it’s a lottery even for kids who have risen above the **** hand they’ve been dealt and impressed at an interview along with being an A student throughout their lives. I read also there are fines for unis oversubscribing themselves so some can’t do this. Expecting some sort of u-turn this week and a dead cat story about brown people to push it to page four.
Basically the **** **** is only in the role because he was a whip and has sworn allegiance to the holy Brexit. If only he’d had a mojito on a train he might have to have fallen on his sword.
Some of the first hand accounts of pupils e.g. predicted ABB but given DDD because they happen to live in a deprived area is flagrant class system at work. As someone who's only ever taught in deprived areas, the thing that often dictates the future of children in these areas is the loss of hope they can do better. This will wreck the immediate future of many and plenty of those may never get themselves back on track. Even if the government do a U-turn how many have already lost their Uni places? And what about the mental and emotional stress they're going through in the meantime.
They had 5 months to avoid this mess.

Today marks the end of an era, with the closure of England's last commercial coal mine.
The Bradley Mine in County Durham has operated for almost 200 years.
But now, after plans to expand the site failed, the open-cast pit that produces 150,000 tonnes of coal a year will close.

It is the worst possible news for the miners who work here, especially when they know that the UK still has a demand for almost eight million tonnes of coal a year.
This demand is mainly satisfied by imports that come from Russia and the US.
