I'm not sure if it's the case with the Oxford vaccine but at the start of the pandemic scientists were hopeful of a quick vaccine because of the work already put into a SARS vaccine. That was partly researched but shelved as it wasn't required.
I still see buses driving past with people not wearing masks...the selfishness involved is bizarre.
