Herd mentality. The start of it seems to have been a video on social media from Australia showing people fighting over bog roll. Only the bog roll was on offer and it wasn’t an example of stockpiling.

It comes over here, idiots go out buying up bog roll, more people see it and hear about it, and think ‘**** there’s not going to be any bog roll, better go buy some’ and on it goes....

It started like that in Australia but the bog roll hoarding has well and truly taken off there as well. The funny thing is bog roll is manufactured in Australia so they're never going to run out of the stuff!
