The conversation turned to coronavirus: 'If you look at bottles of Dettol from last year, it has "effective against Coronavirus" on them. How did they know last year!", opines my ex. "Yes, and someone wrote a book in the 80's saying there would be flu-like virus emanating from China in 2020!', retorts my daughter.

Coranavirus is a category of viruses, so products may have it listed, as it includes the common cold. People are sharing misleading information via social media sources, as of the 17th Feb 2020, no dettol product had been tested against Covid-19 <<< that's the important bit!

Covid-19 has an almost identical death rate to the common flu.
No deaths in the UK as of yet, and most deaths were in China and occurred before they knew what the **** this thing was.
If you take China out of the equation, and take in to account countries who aren't lying ****s and dont live in filth, then the death rate is less than 1%, for example, in South Korea, a civilised country with an actual healthcare system, they have had over 5,000 cases and only like 30 deaths.
China skews the death rate percentage quite a bit because they are clueless ****s.

By the law of averages, one of them each decade will be exceptionally virulent: one of them will be especially lethal. This strain falls in the first category, but not the second. FFS, they're health professionals as well. Can everyone ****ing calm down or die quietly - I take my pension in September and £12k (and counting) has been wiped off my lump sum. Try and think of what's important here. Me.

The term corona virus has been around for years, its a family of viruses, SARS for example, is a coronavirus.

Think it'll dip further when 20% 'self-isolation' hits. Just hope it picks up by September, when we should well be over the worst. Being Final Salary, I was hoping our April pay rise would kick in too. Fat chance of that - we've just been re-nationalised, and the government is just going to say 'No pay rise this year - we've lost too much money'. In fact, when this thing peaks I can see trains not running as they must be the biggest incubators of colds and flu going, never mind the odd sporting or entertainment event.

I agree (hopefully) There was a doctor on CNN saying just that about western healthcare compared to China. BUT - that why we want to delay and stagger the peak impact - no good having superior health care if it's simply going to be swamped and overwhelmed.
