He didn't answer the question on the smaller/medium businesses producing ppe.

He's well trained...... Do these people ever answer a question without a deflection.............. They do realise that they work for us right, why are we allowing this to continue year in year out.

We need to change politics in this country because its arse up broken

That's only if we allow the status quo to continue by voting for it, purely on the basis of it's your rights and people died for these rights crap...........people definitely didn't die for this kinda set up......this isn't a democracy when it's based on lies and deceit.

No lighty no likey

Some bits I've been thinking about during this crisis, thoughts welcome;

PPE, why do we not have washable protective aprons, or wipe down ones, rather than wasteful one use plastic?

Why are our industries not switched to manufacturing the items we need like NOW, it would aid employment, the economy and ensure we have what we need?

Why did the government not make an appeal for furlough employees or volunteers to help with fruit picking (with no penalty clauses), but all paid work, again aiding temporary employment, economy and giving ppl the oppotunity to get out?

Did the government make use of the million volunteers?

We often hear of the war time spirit for everyone to muck in, but I'm not seeing it, it seems to me there is a lack of manufacturing, workers and essential items for the NHS....it's crazy when there are probably loads of people who are looking for excuses to be able to do something useful.

It's like having a front line army without arms, it's like having reserves asleep in the trenches.

Ok, I'll shut up now.

I think the answer to the first part from what I can remember on some news report is that wearing certain PPE deforms it and compromises its protective ability. Also (and this was many moons ago) having worked in medical research after my studies, when we cleaned equipment it was high temp steaming and seriously nasty peroxide cleaning agents. And that was utensils and instruments not PPE. I'd imagine subjecting PPE to that kind of sterilisation process would also compromise its barrier capability. Maybe that's the reason they're not even attempting it in large numbers?

Don't know what the government is doing to promote the switch for manufacturers. Some have heard the call and responded (I think I read among them was a Formula One engineering team?) but it seems to be very much on the companies' initiative rather than being driven by the government through an organised programme?

As for seasonal work on farms, I really don't know what to make of it. News on this seems to be confusing depending on what you hear. On the one hand we're being told they're crying out for workers, but then a couple of ppl I know (including one whose related through family) have tried to find work and been told no availability or only in distant locations such as cambridge. She was telling me there's some company who does a "dig for victory" WW2 type thing since coronavirus started. She emailed them, heard nothing back from them. Another place saying mid-May though that may be because of the crop.

Also one thing I didn't realise (which seems quite obvious thinking about it) is if you have been furloughed and you work on a farm, you're classed as a key worker and your kids can go to school.
