Processed foods are a well known problem regarding health, what I think is the concern here is products that promote themselves as healthy but are not, so for example some yogurts, including low fat ones come under this banner. As I understand it's an ingredient listed as Emulsifier, I haven't looked up what this ingredient actually consists of.

From what I've now read emulsifiers can be consisting of a variety of additives that stabilise and stop ingredients that don't normally mix well together from seperating, so at a guess I assume like water and olive oil, or any other ingredients you can think of. The problem might not also be the additives directly, but how they work indirectly in the gut - so I assume it's a reason why you see men of a certain age with a bloated stomach. But in truth we already know this, they are merely telling us in a different way ie it's emulsifiers as one example that causes this.

 

Spot on…..we are being smashed from all angles when it’s comes to our choices the supermarkets are stacked full of rubbish that is detrimental to the buyers health.

the quality foods are expensive and probably not available for some if money or location determines what they can buy.

lockdown with insane restrictions on time spent exercising or feeling alive breathing in fresh air seeing nature at its finest didn’t help either so I’d say that all sides in Parliament have neglected the public health and should all stand down so we can start thuu oh a fking mess out

Quality foods are expensive is spot on. It can be the difference between a cheaper product being £1 (processed) or a quality product (natural ingredients) being £5 as a mere random example, hence why you see poorer people sicker, people who have money tend to eat better, then that other devil kicks in gluttony. As you said 'probably not available for some if money or location determines what they can buy.'

I also agree with your comment about restrictions on exercise during lockdown, this is all relevant.

Was on a restricted diet while on dialysis. Sure others are on top of what they eat.
Potassium, phosphates are a big restriction for me. So I am educated on the hidden stuff in food(read what’s in the packet)and what natural stuff is also bad if consumed without restriction

Malhotra defines anything with 5 ingredients as ultra processed. My local butchers sausages have about 7 ingredients. Now it’s the food that’s causing heart issues.
