Glad they’ve snuck the news out on a Friday night so we can all discuss it over the weekend before they make an actual decision at some point next week. Doubt anyone else could have done any better though, of course.

Said to a few colleagues that I expect a national lockdown was coming, and they will have it until the week before Xmas.

Hopefully this doesn’t close the gyms!

My Mrs has had to isolate as someone in her work bubble tested positive on Sunday. She has had a test and confirmed with yes day she has it, but until Wednesday had no symptoms. Now she can’t smell/taste.

I’m a transplant patient and stuck in house with a Covid patient due to the rules with rest of family. Thankfully we were tested before were had to isolate and are clear.

lockdown isn’t great, but something has to happen. Public were critical that we were 4 weeks late for a lockdown the first time, I fear we are 4 weeks late this time as my local hospital talk has gone from 20 patients to 200 in that time.

There has to be an exit strategy of sorts though. I worry that we're basing our entire plan on a vaccine turning up early next year, what if it doesn't? We should have been doing the opposite and working on the basis that there'll be no vaccine imo.

And if one doesn't turn up, we gonna have another 3/4 lockdowns in 2021? It's not feasible to carry on that way for years. It's never going to be disappear completely so we need to accept that fact and work out a way to live with it at some point.

Stay safe and keep well mate

Lock downs are only going to work if you get the virus under control. and track cases very very closely You lot are going to hate me for this but you never had it in check. All you did was suppress it a bit then go to the pub, eat out to help out, go on holiday abroad and then send the kids to school and uni. Full lock downs aren't great but either do it properly or go Swedish.

Agree that track and trace is key.

The big problem with getting it 'in check' as you say is that has never really been possible after the delay early this year. The damage was done back then and now suppressing it is the only thing you can really do.

It's here now and it's not going anywhere, even if we get a vaccine most likely, we're going to have to learn to live with at some point.

If a vaccine doesn't arrive then what? 3 or 4 lockdowns in 2021 and beyond? Not feasible.

The magnitude of the vaccine delivery effort would probably mean it will be next Sept or Oct before Joe Public gets access to it, even if the current contenders prove effective. So the only hope right now is suppress, or if you want, go for it and let it rip.
