I never get this type of news, ok they reduced the figures by 5k.....wow, that really helps the 5,000 people that are still dead!

Some people don't seem to recognise the difference between population reduction and population management/stabilisation.
There's plenty Gavin Williamson has got wrong in the past, and no doubt a great degree of incompetence involved during Covid in the handling of statutory assessments, but fair play to him for acknowledging mistakes made and the extent of the cock ups he has regrets about. If those are now being resolved (even if at the last minute) then he deserves backing, if only because of the honesty shown.

It really makes a very small difference, lots of people have died. Would you rather have every death be blamed on covid just so we can "have a go"?
Are we right to take other country's stance or are other country's wrong?
The other countries are Scotland and Wales, who bizarrely haven’t been counting anyone who died more than 28 days after having a positive test. Their logic was that patients in hospital will often have regular tests during their period of hospitalisation at which point the 28 day clock would reset.
Pardon me for being sceptical, but I have zero faith that the same caveat to the measure has been used retrospectively on the English numbers, as they wiped off 5,000 COVID deaths with the stroke of a pen.
The number of excess deaths remains the same......
In terms of the A level results tomorrow I think the entire issue of grades and how they’ve been calculated etc is largely moot anyway. As unless pupils miss their offer grades by a country mile, it’ll largely make no difference as the Uni’s are ****ing desperate for numbers due to the massive drop off in the more lucrative overseas students.
