And that’s only the ones who died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. They’ve got a smaller population so percentages is a fair way to compare how each country has done for care homes. We will clearly have more deaths with a population about 13 times greater than them up there.

this is where thick ****s get it all wrong because they read headlines.
People were sent out of hospitals to protect them from covid (they were in there in the first place because they were ill and vulnerable), they didn't need testing because they were already being monitored for their conditions.
The government ****ed up by sending them into care homes without testing the homes (where up to that point visitors were allowed in all the time), it probably meant many died from going into the care homes but really didn't take covid in with them.

To say they didn’t need testing is nonsense, they did. They could have been carrying the virus and not yet shown symptoms or been asymptomatic. Even if positive the advice was they could go back anyway. The aim was to clear beds, not protect the elderly.

The facts are that on the 19th March the guidance was to clear hospital beds.

    On 2nd April the guidance was updated and;
"negative [coronavirus] tests are not required prior to transfers/admissions into the care home".

Even elderly patients who tested positive could be admitted to care homes, according to the document, if measures - such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and isolation - were used.

They didn’t insist on patients being released back into care homes being tested until 15th April, by which point 28,000 had already been moved.

Visitors to care homes weren’t banned until the lockdown on 24th March. Some of the larger groups had already acted 2 weeks prior. The Govt had completely left care homes out of the March 3rd action plan.

Utter ****ing deflective, speculative drivel. Justify that assertion with some actual facts. I know from several health care sources in hospitals and care homes that you just couldn't be more wrong. But it will come out, even with a skewed, twisted and knobbled enquiry in the future, and the excuse will be the lack of testing kits at the time, but this is a lie - the government knew damn well they were sending lepers to leper-free islands and that they would become leper colonies. And they knew most of all that the care homes were even more ill-equipped than hospitals in terms of PPE and expertise to deal with the tsunami coming their way.

Thick ****s like the cross party Public Accounts Committee who were privy to the full details behind the death levels in our care homes and concluded that they had been "thrown to the wolves" by governmental incompetence and failures?

Or thick ****s like a blinkered Tory boy on a football forum looking for any excuses to bale out a government that has oveeseen the worst death rates from the Pandemic in Europe?

    Yeah this for me too.

We're in the middle of a ****ing global pandemic and yet some folk still can't live without a two week jolly on the Costa Brava.

Like you say, if you want to take a punt on this, then don't whinge if you then decide it's too risky to go and you lose your cash, or when you're told that you have to quarantine when you come back.

World is full of self entitled ****s like this, whatever happened to a bit of humility ?

They would have spent it all by now on cheap whisky, hard drugs and fried mars bars.

Alternatively they could have bought Newcastle United.

England had the highest levels of excess deaths in Europe between the end of February to the middle of June, official analysis shows.

The Office for National Statistics said England saw the second highest peak rates of death in Europe, after Spain.

But England had the longest period where deaths were above average, and so overall had the highest levels.

The ONS analysis shows the epidemic in the UK was more widely spread than in other countries.

However areas in Spain and Italy were harder hit than cities in the UK.

Analyses that take account of the age of the population also show that England had the highest death rates in Europe in the weeks to the end of May.

Spain was second, followed by Scotland, Belgium and Wales.

Eight deaths involving coronavirus were registered in Scotland from July 20 to July 26, a rise of two on the week before.

It comes even as separate daily Scottish Government figures show no deaths among confirmed Covid-19 patients for 12 days.

    Well played Sturgeon <laugh>

that is standard as it is due to the different count systems i.e. the daily briefing ones don't include those in the community i believe .
Before people start banging on about massaging figures , from either angle . a lot of this is due to pure logistics .
