For some strange reason, I've not even thought of it consciously as a problem. If you see some of the conditions Hong Kongers sleep in, they will just fit in anywhere. Think I love the fact that when they have their protests, they all stick together and show solidarity. I don't know why but I've got a lot of mutual respect for them. I reckon they could bring a lot of skills here as well, weren't Hong Kong more technically advanced, while we were still waking up, or did I just imagine that!
The Chinese are probably the most verbally abused ethnics in this country mate, you are old enough to remember late night drunks in chippys, yet they have never complained or asked for special treatment. In America (and here) they were treated just as bad as Blacks were and used as slaves to build railways and other infrastructure, again very little complaint.
They don't seem to live in enclaves but instead just live among the general population, work hard when adult and learn when at school. Now there is much less prejudice against them and all done without protests and rioting.
