There are reasons for this. Mental patients and old people have been moved out into the community, more day surgery due to medical innovation etc

Agree, bed numbers will have to be assessed post pandemic/

Not much use having capacity in Inverness if you’re needing a bed in Plymouth.

My 1st appointment after my Radiotherapy treatment due on the 10th January has just been cancelled due to the hospital being over run with untreated Covid patients, this was an important appointment for me being the 1st in remission but I suppose I can wait after all I'm one of the lucky ones I haven't got Covid

Now talk of a 4th vaccination for some, because effectiveness of the booster drops off a bit after ten weeks. But as far as they know it only drops of a bit for mild symptomatic disease, not severe disease. Surely at some stage we have to say ‘you can cope with a cold for a few days can’t you?’ rather than endlessly jab people.

This disease is, on the whole, mild. The people most at risk are fully vaccinated or have chosen not to be. Let it rip, get it over with, vaccinate the rest of the world faster.

    10 weeks
    Be daily soon
Can it be put in the water supply

    Over 90% vaccinated here
    Boosters being rolled out
Hardly any Covid to be protected from
Maybe we do need to open up or what's the point
Could be on our tenth booster before we have to worry about the disease

The problem with letting it rip is that you would end up with a large number of sick people all at once which could end with upwards of a third of the entire workforce being off work all at the same time. That includes ambulance drivers, police and all emergency services. Apparently a quarter of the police in Berlin are currently off work.

They are off work because the isolation rules require them to be. Do you take time off work for a cold? Probably not in normal circumstances. The attempts to slow the spread are actually making the situation worse, potentially, by removing people from the workforce while services are under some pressure but nothing like last January.

It’s now a tired old cliche, but we have to learn to live with this. Our main means of defence from severe disease is vaccination, not avoiding human contact.

That's good you've had the 'flu jab. Can''t help thinking that your PCR (P2R where I live) could have been a false/positive one? It is not uncommon, after recent reports, that the test is not 100% reliable? A good example would be Owen Farrell, the English RU player whose first positive PCE result was positive, but later found-out to be false.

There is no one single defence against this Stan - it's like having voles in the garden, single measures don't work. How do you think that epidemics/pandemics came to an end in history when no vaccines were available ? They achieved it purely through social distancing and when the disease decided for itself that enough was enough. Animals also practice social distancing in situations like this and it is the first line of defence. The truth is that any of the measures used would have been enough if practiced 100% - mask wearing alone, if practiced consequently, could have brought this to an end. Unfortunately the existence of a vaccine led to a general relaxation where people thought the problem was nearly over as a result, and relaxed their guard.

Just been announced here that in last 24 hours >11,000 positive results for Covid, almost double the previous 24 hour total. In the last 7 days 240k pcr tests carried out and the positive rate is around 20%, Health Executive believe that >80% of those positive results are due to the Omicron variant.....

    Stay safe all.....

    Must be wine o'clock......<bubbly>

Thank goodness that with Omicron there’s 70% less chance of ending up in hospital (if you are one of that extremely small percentage of people that might end up in hospital) else we might all be prone to overreaction.that could further damage the economy, mental health, social interaction etc.

Also, thank goodness that absolutely nobody has died from seasonal flu at all, or that might’ve made the overall figure all the more alarming.

I’d love a few voles in my garden.

I would say it is quite a balanced view considering. Never liked him as a footballer but the man speaks quite a bit of sense.
