It can be argued that man wouldn’t have got to the moon in 1969 without technologies used And developed in the war.
Does anyone know what the definition of a plague actually is? When would our pandemic be considered a plague?
Plague is a disease that affects humans and other mammals. It is caused by the bacterium, Yersinia pestis. Humans usually get plague after being bitten by a rodent flea that is carrying the plague bacterium or by handling an animal infected with plague.
Plague is used to describe disease spread by the Yersinia pestis bacterium. Until the advent of modern antibiotics it was almost always fatal, causing death by one of 3 disorders, bubonic plague (the majority), but also septicaemic plague and pneumonic plague. So no, this isn’t plague.
Okay cheers guys. I just thought saying "we've survived a plague" sounded cooler than "weve survived a pandemic"
Mostly treatable by gentamicin nowadays ------------- But back in the day it was horrific! Can't begin to imagine the fear when that spread.
The Black Death killed between 30% and 60% of the population of Europe. We can only imagine the sheer terror among a population who mostly couldn’t read and had no idea what was happening.
I remember reading 'Children of Winter' at school when I was about eight. Somehow that fear of that story has stayed with me. Its all very well dying, but you try living while society dies.
Hmmmm, new sig for in one weeks time. Its all very well dying, but you try living while society dies.
