And from what we read on here I'd say its reflected in your attitude. Credit to you. I've had one big turning point in my adult life so far, and it was really positive. I think there's another one coming though. And this one feels more forced.
Thank you. Forced or not, turning points are what make life - forced or not. From adversary comes new opportunities. It may not feel like a positive change but long term we can look back and say that is what made us into who we are and what we are. Phew, tiring this life coaching stuff. Stay strong, stay safe and stay you.
I’m in a songwriting group and someone posted that quote from Samuel Pepys yesterday and said the phrase “A dram for the pox” would be a good title for a song. So I channeled my inner William McGonagall and put this together yesterday whilst watching the bore-fest that was Leicester v Palace (and praying old man steptoe didn’t score ) Hope you don’t mind me posting it - but it kind of sums up my feelings at the moment ..... They opened the local at 6 this morning There was a queue at the door Bleary eyed and still yawning The beers started flowing Corona of course While death sat outside astride his pale horse The devil on my shoulder said in my ear “You don’t need to worry, you know that you’re clear. It’s so easy to get pissed in less than a day” A wee dram for the pox, as Samuel might say The barmaid’s a siren, she beckons me hence “An ale free of virus, you know it makes sense” When you’re dying for that pint, it’s the one thing you crave, But you’ll be dying from that pint if you’re terribly brave So I’m staying outside, face pressed to the glass An ill bargain indeed for the locals who pass Their frustrations at not being able to drink Up a beer at their local. They’re crazy, I think That devil on my shoulder whispers again “Just open the door”, it’s a common refrain A wee dram for the pox, as they call the disease Or a pint of the virus, it’s such a good wheeze To be struggling for breath after fighting the crowd In the pub with the telly, shouting out loud We’re all such good mates, we can cuddle each other Sister to sister, brother to brother A scotch for the pox, is it all really worth it? Stay out of the pub, we didn’t deserve it. It’s not gone away, whatever “they” say It’ll spread and still kill you in the nastiest way So I kick that Old Nick off my shoulder tout de suite Go back to my place where I aim to complete The rest of my day before whisky tonight A wee dram for the pox? There’s no way that is right. <off to get my coat> Be gentle with me, good friends ...... I haven’t submitted it to my peers yet
Cheers, Chilco (and everyone who "liked" it!) Being an absolutely useless musician, I tend to ask others if they can put tunes to my stuff (I never got past the "Phoebe from Friends" standard of playing the guitar, so, if I do anything it tends to be acapella ) so I'm constantly looking for a Reg Dwight character to help me with tunes ..... I thought this one might work with an "Olde English" style folk tune (complete with finger in ear) or, perhaps, a jaunty ballad to offset the somewhat depressing words!
Well done! I'm desperate for one too - must give them a call. I stupidly didn't realise they might be open today!
Excellent- don’t forget to mention me just after Uncle Samuel When you collect your award, or add “inspired by Sam and Fats” on the label
