I had to go in the garage earlier on and get on the punch bag, feel so much better now. Let a bit of built up stress out.
Saw this, was an interesting take on the situation. It popped up on a FB group so ignore the last bit about understanding the joke, as it's actually not funny but is a useful illustration of the problem we all have.
This 'precision instrument' that you will play with both hands, whilst being filmed. By Mrs No7. Is it akin to 'The Pink Oboe'?
I'm not talking about vaccines; with CRISPR, they've been working on programmable enzymes that attack specific RNA or DNA chains found in a strain of virus, which in lab conditions have proven remarkably capable of reducing viral loads. And it's almost infinitely reprogrammable: it's a pair of scissors that will cut wherever you tell it to, and we have gotten rather adept at genome sequencing to figure out what needs snipping. It's still at least a few years away from being deployable as a therapy (they haven't started animal testing yet), but there are a lot of scientists who believe that CRISPR will in time be for (at least some) viruses what antibiotics have been for bacterial infections, but more focused.
That was a horrible spin of a briefing. While the write off of trust debts is welcome there are clear signs of how this government are going to deflect criticism. I'll give you two things to lookout for. Today the health secretary explained the lack of testing for health workers because he'd prioritised 'patients' instead. This is a long standing technique this government has used around pay rise negotiations and complaints of understaffing. Blame the troops. Its a nonsense as most benefit is gained in testing coal face workers quickly, and they've tested bugger all patients anyway. But lets gently suggest the Drs/Nurses are not seeing the big picture and placing themselves before the public. Chip, chip. He will promote the wearing of (almost) useless facemasks, quoting vague reports (not research) from china and korea. This will buy into the fears and bias of the general public, and of course deflect attention away from NHS staff having fairly useless supplies. I'm so angry I'd better not post for a bit, I'm liable to get the sack. Suffice to say the team I delivered "PPE" equipment yesterday have several confirmed cases. They have been issued with four (4) masks and glove sets. No suits. No check on if the masks fit. The staff have to take blood if treatment of a patient is to continue (Clozaril, look it up), The poor sods continue to do so. Sorry to rant (I really wanted to be more positive in this thread) but I've good friends out there who are at high risk, and just carrying on. See you all later.
This is your one hour warning to get your glad rags on to stand on your doorstep and applaud those that are putting themselves first to keep us safe Stay safe, don't leave your doorstep.
I have high hopes for CRISPR but it will be interesting to see how the production can be scaled up. It certainly will be incredibly expensive.
