Fully vaccinated people are much less likely to die with Covid-19 than those who aren't, or have had only one dose, figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show. Out of more than 51,000 Covid deaths in England between January and July 2021, only 256 occurred after two doses. They were mostly people at very high risk from illness from Covid-19. "Breakthrough" deaths - occurring at least two weeks after the second jab along with a first positive PCR Covid test - tend to happen in the most vulnerable, men and those with weakened immune systems, with the average age being 84. But overall numbers were very small - they accounted for only 0.5% of all deaths from Covid-19 over the first six months of the year. Julie Stanborough, from the ONS, said: "Our new analysis shows that, sadly, there have been deaths of people involving Covid-19 despite them being fully vaccinated. "However, we've also found that the risk of a death involving Covid-19 is much lower among people who are fully vaccinated than those who are unvaccinated." Utterly bizarre story. Bearing in mind that there was over 1k deaths a day for about 8 weeks in January to February, all before the vaxxed were “fully vaxxed” in April and May. Staggering how thick the BBC think folk are that they can post a story like this and think that folk will buy it, hook, line and sinker.
Cases are up 10 fold, year on year, hospitalisations up 5 fold and deaths up 3 fold. And this is with a wonderful vaccine.
We have had more than eighteen months of dodgy data modelling passed off as science; and the ONS have been at the front of that dodgy data. The science that I prefer involves actual scientists coming up with hypothesis to solve problems, fabricating potential solutions and testing them to prove that they solve the problem. Claims that vaccines have prevented 60,000 deaths or 66,900 hospitalisations are just guesswork. We know that the people that are dying are the unvaccinated or those with serious vulnerability. The conspiracy theorists would have us believe that the vaccines weaken the immune system when the science tells us that people who already have compromised immune systems (the old and infirm) are at most risk. The Vaccine Minister Nadim Zahawi insists on ploughing ahead with a booster jab that science already tells us is unnecessary and largely pointless. If uptake on the offer is poor he will struggle to come up with a credible scientific argument to support it. It would make more logical sense to send those extra vaccine doses to other countries to slow the spread and reduce death tolls. We know that the Delta variant is more transmissible than the Alpha variant, which has led to the spike in the statistics, which anti-vaxxers and no-vaxxers gleefully and inaccurately claim to be evidence that the vaccines are a bad thing. The anti-vaxxers and no-vaxxers are still the group most at risk and most likely to spread the plague but we cannot legislate against stupidity.
