We need more more effeminate, caring men like him to make the world more equal and safer for our BAME community, Cis-women (who respect transgender people) and LBGTQ+ folk.

There isn’t a case for mass ‘booster’ jabs

Many pathogens are capable of repeatedly infecting us but only cause severe disease and death upon first exposure. Provided our first infection occurs when we are babies and protected by maternal antibodies or while we retain cross-protection from other related pathogens, deaths will remain largely confined to those who have become vulnerable due to immune senescence or the development of predisposing conditions.

Under these circumstances, we may expect SARS-CoV-2 to settle, like other seasonal coronaviruses, to an endemic state in which the requisite levels of “herd immunity” are maintained through continuous re-infection and deaths among the vulnerable fall to a steady low level. Naturally-acquired immunity can steer us to this state, but we need a robust plan to shield the vulnerable along the way. Vaccines are the ideal way to achieve this focused protection, particularly in populations where it is challenging to temporarily isolate the vulnerable (or offer them that option) during peaks of infection.

But should we be vaccinating those who are at negligible risk? Before entering into arguments about the ethical or political dimensions of this question, we should ask ourselves what purpose it serves – because, if it is futile, the discussion should simply end there.

Vaccines typically do not outperform natural immunity, so it should come as no surprise that Covid vaccines do not offer long-term protection against infection. At the same time, we can be confident that they will continue to work well to prevent severe clinical outcomes. The role of these vaccines is to offer protection to the clinically vulnerable; to foist them upon those who are at negligible risk in the hope of augmenting herd immunity is illogical.

Will boosters achieve what two doses could not? For those who are extremely vulnerable and show no evidence of mounting a significant immune response after two doses, it is entirely reasonable to attempt a third dose.

But it can be to no-one else’s individual gain to submit to a third jab, having already reduced the risk of severe disease (which was very small in the first place for most) by receiving two inoculations. For there to be the collective benefit of herd immunity, the booster would have to provide life-long protection against infection – unless we are willing to accept repeated mass vaccination into the foreseeable future. Aside from being a colossal diversion of limited resources, that would open the door to a permanent state of lockdown as we lurch from one booster campaign to the next.

All of these speculations and ethical entanglements can be avoided by acknowledging that the vaccines have already brought focused protection to those who needed it in the UK and that now the best course of action is to rely on natural immunity to maintain and consolidate a normal state of living with this virus. These booster shots should be going into the arms of the many vulnerable people around the world who have yet to receive a single dose. It is shameful that we have not done this instead of pushing vaccines onto those who were in no need of them in the vain hope of preventing the spread of the virus in more affluent countries.

It is also deplorable that it is being argued that we should vaccinate the rest of the world in order to prevent them from remaining a breeding ground for new variants. It is unlikely that a mutant will arise which evades immunity against severe disease conferred either by vaccination or natural infection. It may be better able to cause reinfections which will then allow it to displace the prevailing variant, just as the delta variant has taken over in many places.

However, these “take-overs” do not imply that the incoming variants are hugely more transmissible. It is crucial that we learn to accept that new variants may outcompete established variants but that these will not increase the burden of disease in a population where the vulnerable have been vaccinated or experienced natural infection prior to becoming vulnerable.

In the unlikely event of the evolution of a variant which resists immunity to severe disease, we will have to develop new vaccines tailored to such variants rather than relying upon boosting pre-existing immunity. It is reassuring that the technology is there to do this on a short timescale, as the success of the current vaccines has shown.

And perhaps next time – whether it be because of an aggressive new variant or an entirely new pathogen – we will hesitate to inflict the same damage through lockdowns while we wait for the vaccines to arrive, and recognise that the combination of natural immunity and vaccine-induced protection of the vulnerable offers the most robust and humane solution to the problem.

Probably because she's wanting the glory (money) all to herself with the vaccines.

'In her day job Gupta already has her name on one influenza patent, she reveals, and is leading a team to crack the ‘holy grail’ in the field – a ‘universal’ influenza vaccine that works on all strains of the disease. This arose from a mathematical model of how influenza evolves.'

Miss Gupta is one of the thousands of medical proponents who signed the Barrington Declaration which argues against the inhumane lockdowns, school closures and hospitality destruction and instead argues for the purely logical step "protect the vulnerable" and let the virus circulate in the community and build up herd immunity.

    The evidence is all there.

The vaccine is failing in Israel who are on their 3rd jab after cases and hospitalisations sky rocket... and they're talking about their 4th jabs now.

More and more studies saying that natural immunity is better than vaccine immunity.

Scared people wanting to relinquish responsibility for their own bodies and entrust the corruptible and hopelessly inefficient State to mandate compulsory jabs with NO LONG TERM HEALTH DATA... instead of just trusting their own immune system and keeping fit and strong.

I don't even know what a Covid passport is? Is it an actual passport that replaces the one I've got now that I have to show border control?

I'm gullible to all of this as I'm not obsessing over it and letting it control my life.

    Unlike you tbh <laugh>
