You will still be a social climbing prole even if you have managed to claw you way a couple of rungs up the ladder,
My daughter and her boy bought their house outright. 60k in Ballymena. You couldn't get me to live there for 60k a week right enough. Mortgages are for mongs, just rent and you've far more freedom.
What would it cost you a month, to rent a small house in a nice part (assuming there are any, but everything is relative) of Beelfast?
social climbing. also social-climbing. uncountable noun. You describe someone's behaviour as social climbing when they try to get accepted into a higher social class by becoming friendly with people who belong to that class. Not sure that I am social climbing by buying a house. I'm onto my third one at the moment, one that I have extensively improved and extended. Bought my first flat for £42k my house now is valued at over £600k yet I have the same group of friends dating all the way back to when I was 11. Some friends rent and do everyday sorts of jobs, some are barristers who earn what my house is worth in a year. If I had stayed true to my roots I'd be living in a Council flat in North Kensington watching everyone around me being priced out of the housing market by the massive influx of celebs and other trendies who flocked to Portobello Road in the 90s. Funny how the Ladbroke Grove I knew and loved was an utter khazi growing up in the 70's and 80's but you can't go 5 paces without bumping into some TV presenter or former Britpop muso now.
Well I'm paying £525 for a 2 bed flat on the Antrim road. I'm actually looking at houses in Dunmurry because empty head wants a dog (nice part of it) and you're talking about 600 for a 2 bed house. Upper Lisburj Road/Malone would likely be about 800
I’m hoping to retire a little early and not having to pay a mortgage/ rent anymore will help to achieve that.
I'll be paying my mortgage off until I'm 69, so that hasn't really worked out for me. But on the other hand, remortgaging a few years back cleared all my debts, got me out the ****, and paid for a new kitchen and bathroom. Plus, my monthly mortgage payments are next to nothing compared to what I would have to pay in rent.
You'd pay at least a grand a month for a two bedder anywhere in London. Unless you can get a Housing Association place, or a protected tenancy.
The biggest killer of all time is... ...life Always terminal, no ifs no buts, it ends in death. And taxes.
