A ridiculous state of affairs. I'd suggest battening down the hatches - a second wave is sure to come.
Agreed.... please everyone use your own common sense and isolate...................... I fear the Govt have blinked too soon
A week ago Macron came on TV here and said what would be changing from today. He outlined the plan, and the following morning all the details were there for us to see. There are different rules here as for Scotland, N.Ireland and Wales, but it didn't need the leaders from the different regions to take matters into their own hands. Johnson probably gave the game away when he talked about having things "sketched" out. Sketching out is a preliminary operation, not a set of working plans. After the chaos seen at the weekend with people deciding that the lockdown was over, Johnson had to try and grab back control, but only succeeded in making matters worse.
I don't know what the hell the Guardian is playing at printing this - trying to start a Scotland/England war?
Just did a quick look at the government regulations that have been published this afternoon, and there is one section where they are talking about how they will be able to distinguish between the coronavirus and the seasonal flu next winter. They clearly have been advised that this is not going to go away this year.
Got a link to that? Google seems to specialise in throwing up old ones first - can't find anything more recent than last month.
When there is a pending announcement eg on Covid, Queen, Budget is anyone getting sick and tired of being told what is going to be said but PR people? I am. The point of such announcements are that they are important and everyone should listen & take note, but if we are constantly fed soundbites then why bother to listen to the actual announcement, I couldn't be bothered last night. Do you think Churchill would have allowed that to happen? The element of surprise or freshness has gone. Do they think we cannot cope with an important announcement anymore, will we be scared of what might be said? We are adults! I wish PR people would craw up their own backsides.
Not sure what the graph really was about if I am honest. Take Slovakia for example, they posted fewer deaths over the eight days than Belgian did in just one day in the same period. Slovakia is included in the graph.
Slovakia is probably there as a counterfoil - they have one of the best health systems in Europe, and were producing breathing apparatus locally, and selling them to Germany before all this happened. A lot of the equipment used in Germany and Austria was produced there. The big difference between that country and Belgium is that their lockdown was one of the first in Europe and they have halved the number of active cases - which Belgium hasn't. I hardly ever look at the death figures because the important figure is under the numbers of new infections per day, plus balancing that against the number of new recoveries per day (which in good circumstances should be higher). The best way of bringing down the death figures is to prevent people from becoming infected in the first place. The fact is that the 'active cases' figure is still rising for the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and a couple of other European countries, including Russia. This may be due to new recoveries not being recorded with the same diligence - or maybe some countries don't have enough testing equipment to be testing recovery as well - this is a shame because it is the 'active cases' figure which is the all important one ie. how many people are currently infected. We do not know how many unregistered cases there are, but we can presume that if the registered case list is falling then the other must be as well.
Whatever next? According to Johnson, the virus is in our water systems - I'm surprised he didn't tell the country to stop drinking water...
I really cannot understand how the government says on the one hand that you can now drive your car anywhere in England, but on the other hand you shouldn't use it to go to your second home if you are lucky enough to have one. How can you reconcile these two differing positions?
Spain to now introduce a 14 day quarantine period from this Friday for all people entering the country, including their own nationals. The UK says it might do the same, but gives no date for it. I doubt that Ryanair will find much call for holiday trips this year.
This is rare - a London, barrister who specialises in disability, mental health and human rights law, has compared the Scottish Government's guidance for care home staff to the UK government's equivalent. After his point by point comarison he comes down squarely on the side of the SG.
Confirmation, if needed, that Johnson's message on Sunday did nothing other than cause confusion. I can't really believe that these people trying to book a holiday in a Welsh holiday park don't understand that Wales is a different country with different lockdown rules. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/...r.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
