So when I tell HMRC that my unpaid tax cheques is in the post, they will count it as paid ? (With thanks to a bright letter writer in the Guardian)
Another sad tale from Watford General Hospital. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/n...us-watford-general-hospital-housekeeper-dies/
It appears as though looking in from the outside that the government's handling of the crisis is in disarray. Plenty of media outlets around the world can see the problems as this one from Australia does. https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe...ere-did-britain-go-wrong-20200428-p54o2d.html
When you see both the Telegraph and the Guardian attacking Hancock over comments he made to a MP who also uses her medical skills to work shifts in the A&E department of a hospital, you know he got it horribly wrong. I only hope he has the grace to apologize to her in the Commons.
Test kits deemed faulty because they returned positive results on a goat and a pawpaw. I wonder why they tested either - and what else they were testing? https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http...FNljDSIgDMS-X4TMaP-_ZgbORBsjQ2G6EFYHPoK3PKbpQ
Interesting to see that in France masks are now becoming widely available to the general public https://www.connexionfrance.com/French-news/Supermarkets-and-buying-masks-in-France Carrefour Masks are available at the checkout. They are sold by lots of five and ten. The CEO of Carrefour group, Alexandre Bompard, said he wanted a “simple distribution” as 10million masks are available from this week and another 175million should be available from May 11. Disposable masks cost 58 centimes each and fabric masks cost €1-€3. Intermarché Intermarché prioritised those clients who have a loyalty card by offering them, from last week, the opportunity to reserve masks online before picking them up at the store reception. The box is sold for €29.54. Only one box can be reserved by customers. You can reserve your box directly at this link: https://www.intermarche.com/enseigne/bons-plans/masques The supermarket will also sell washable fabric masks in the coming weeks. Netto Netto is part of the same Les Mousquetaires group as Intermarché, and takes the same approach. A lot of 50 masks can be reserved online and the customer will have to go to the reception of a store to collect them. Only one lot can be reserved. Monoprix At Monoprix, masks are sold in batches of 50 for €29.90 or batches of 10 for €6.90. Fabric masks are sold in sets of two for €4.40. The masks are available at the cash desk, at the reception of the store, or in the pharmacy section of the shop. Leclerc Leclerc is selling masks individually or by sets of ten at the reception of the store. Each mask costs between 50 and 60 cents. Lidl Lidl sells single-use masks in batches of 50 in all its supermarkets, except in Paris where they are sold by batches of ten. The government experts said at the beginning of this crisis that a death toll of 20,000 would be a good result. Today the number goes past 30,000 and it hasn't finished yet. "Just how did it come to this" Starmer asked Johnson at PMQs. There was no answer of course, and it is tragic to know that countries around the world are looking at and questioning is the PM really competent to lead at the time of crisis. There are families around the world grieving the loss of loved ones, but looking at the different ways that countries have responded you would have more faith in some of the leaders than others.
How lucky they have someone who is a serious politician. Without his audience of compliant Tories sat behind him Johnson showed today what an empty vessel he really is. Testing falls again, you cannot fiddle the figures for ever because they catch up eventually, and now there are instructions being issued to hospitals to stop testing patients before releasing them from care as they have run short of reagents. I have watched the First Minister in Scotland telling it as it is day after day even when the news is bad. England is hamstrung by trying to manage the news to appease the party donors.

Mexico is days away from running out of beer, the country's brewers' association is warning. Brewing is not among the industries which the government declared essential and therefore had to halt production at the end of March. "There's no production, there's no distribution, we're not producing a single beer," said Karla Siqueiros, president of Brewers of Mexico. Siqueiros said she did not have an estimate of how many beers were left in supermarkets and shops, but that she had already received reports of prices shooting up as speculators took advantage of shortages. She reassured beer lovers that brewers were poised to restart production as soon as they were allowed to by the government - but cautioned that she had not been given any hint as to when that could be.
Norwich is the best place in the country if you wish to avoid the virus. There seem to be several reasons why, including the isolation of the city. Norwich imposed a lockdown a week before any other town or city in the country, before the government told them to do it. From this, it is perhaps hard to avoid one overwhelming question: if the lockdown had been implemented earlier across the rest of country, how many thousands of lives might have been saved?
The Tories probably assume that everyone will have forgotten by the time the next election comes around. Either that or they will be dead. As for NZ, the leader of the National Party, our Tories, criticised the government's handling of the situation. Labour party supporters sat back whilst his own party members ripped into him. A past leader of the National Party, and the last Prime Minister, then started making suggestions as to who would be a suitable leader for the party after the current one leaves. We have a general election in October.

Little wonder the US has so many deaths with fruit loops like this. It's as if she is saying these deaths don't matter because there are other deaths.
