Lester Piggott went to jail for less. And jail-time, say 3 years, and being barred from ever holding office, is the minimum.
He'd probably get 10 years in Iceland. He'd possibly be executed in Vietnam...<whistle>

He can afford his own - make him pay. Although he'd probably submit an expenses claim for it before making the journey.

Does this have something to do with this?

The BBC has apologized for not properly challenging the views of a vaccine skeptic, who claimed that Covid jabs cause heart damage during an interview on BBC News.

In a statement on Thursday, the UK broadcaster said it should have been better prepared for a live exchange with Dr Aseem Malhotra given his history of promoting vaccine hesitancy.

The interview took place on the BBC News channel last Friday, when Malhotra hijacked a conversation about cholesterol medication to claim that coronavirus vaccines “carry a cardiovascular risk.”

The BBC received 253 complaints from viewers about the BBC News channel interview. The corporation said Malhotra’s claims were rebutted later in on Friday morning by Professor Peter Openshaw, a member of the UK Vaccine Network.

It did not stop Malhotra’s remarks from being celebrated by the anti-vax community, who said their views had been acknowledged by a mainstream media organization.

He has simply followed the tradition of many a politician really, but does seem to have turned it into an art form - a habit which both his successors have continued on. I may be biased, but his utterances on Scottish issues were around 70% lies, 20% gibberish and 10% pidgin Latin. Sadly, this has started to creep into the words of the opposition leader as well, who, as a replacement for Corbyn, has been as useful as used toilet paper.
The only improvement that Sunak has brought is that at least he speaks clearly - even if it is with a forked tongue

I think they are starting to - the readership of each and every newspaper has plummeted alarmingly since 2000. The strategy of moving online has hit a stumbling block too - as income from hard copy sales started to drop, they tried to address that via increased levels advertising. I get the impression that many people are now put off by having to constantly scroll past ads in the middle of articles and/or deal with pop-ups every time they turn a page digitally.
With social media increasingly taking over the role of newspapers, I'd say many people are going to be even less well-informed.

I don't know if this happens in England, but here the UK government provides newspapers with funds to employ journalists - that probably accounts for the pro-union stance of editors who are increasingly worried about falling income levels.
