According to the Chancellor, the Queen dying put him under pressure, and resulted in his botched budget. It didn't look as though he was under much pressure at the funeral.

Even on the off chance that her words have been taken out of context, this is an appallingly stupid thing for a government minister to be saying - and the same applies to Labour's Rachel Reeves in the clip further down the thread.

How on earth do these people get selected as candidates, nevermind voted in?

Nasty, despicable, specimen that she is. The sort of tory one would, at least, hesitate to resuscitate as that "nurse" insinuated on the Jeremy Vine programme. You should check out twitter, all them there right-wing blowhards in glorious indignation like the "lefty liberal snowflakes" they keep on berating. They can dish it out but they sure as the brown smelly stuff can't take it.

Liz Truss walked onto the stage to give her 'speech' at the Tory conference this morning with the musical accompaniment of M People's "Moving On Up".

You sometimes have to wonder if they do things deliberately to provoke or simply don't think about what they are doing. M People's lead singer is Heather Small - whose son is James Small-Edwards, a Labour councillor in Bayswater.

The lyrics to the song include the following lines:

You've done me wrong, your time is up
You took a sip from the devil's cup

Move right out of here, baby, go on pack your bags
Just who do you think you are?
Stop actin' like some kind of star

Cause I'm movin' on up, you're movin' on out.

    Predicting her own downfall?

"So far in this parliament 16 MPs have been suspended from the House or have resigned their seat for various misdemeanours. At least five more are under investigation. This is completely unprecedented. No parliament has ever seen this before. And we’ve two years to go."

“Conor Burns, the former trade minister sacked over misconduct claims, is set to receive a knighthood in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list….”

Ridiculous really - when a prime minister has been forced to resign, why on earth should he be allowed to nominate undeserving, like-minded cronies for such 'honours'?

It is not often that I feel sorry for Tory MPs but the rank and file party members have given them a leader that the majority of the MPs seem to consider a moron. Even those MPs that supported the PM probably did so for their own personal gain. The party members, for whom I can't help thinking run with the slogan 'colour before competence', will probably not blame the PM either.
