The review states “the problem of illegal entry by small boats is not solvable in the Channel by Border Force” and “a whole-system approach is needed”. Will Patel take heed and ask governments across the Channel for help with proper processing centres? So far it seems not, just pay up some more money to build an extra bit of fencing is her approach.

The Tories run an organisation called Conservatives Abroad. *Membership of this organisation costs £25. *It is open to anyone anywhere in the world - they don't even have to be UK citizens living abroad. *Members automatically become a member of the Conservative Party and are entitled to all the benefits of party membership, including participation in the Conservative Policy Forum, attendance at party conferences and a vote in the election of the party leader. *So a non-British member living abroad has something by far the vast majority of UK residents don't have - a say in who becomes Prime Minister. The Rwandans - and doubtless plenty of others - must be laughing their socks of at this. "Tens of thousands" turns out to be two hundred - with the agreement signed being worth £120m, that works out at £600K per head. Nearly as bad as Liz Truss' much vaunted New Zealand trade deal in terms of value to the UK. And to make matters worse, the courts still have to decide if the Rwanda deal is legal. If it isn't, Rwanda get to keep the £120m. I don't think fiscal prudence is a Tory strongpoint...

On 22nd September 1934 at Gresford Colliery, Wales, an explosion killed 266 men & boys underground. 6 survived and only 11 bodies were ever recovered. The wages of all were docked by half a day's pay by the owners because the men had 'failed to complete their shift.' At a time when the Unions are coming under attack from some in the media and right wing politicians, it is events such as this that should remind us that only by joining together working people can have a voice. This is still a problem in society today. The head of BT Philip Jansen was paid £3,500,000 last year (up 32%). When asked if he would increase pay to front line staff, he replied: “Why would I do that?”

Perhaps surprisingly, I have a low opinion of Tories - and I doubt that would ever happen. If it did though, I'd imagine there'd be no court involved - they would just be stripped of their peerages.
