The governor of the Bank of England earns a basic salary of £495,000 a year. He has just told workers who are facing sickening energy costs & massive increases to food costs to not ask for ‘big’ pay rises.
A near unbelievable response to a perfectly valid question - "...not a matter for Her Majesty's government"

"In October 2020 Good Law Project revealed the existence of the VIP lane. In November 2020 the Government informed the National Audit Office that there were 47 VIPs. In November 2021, after losing an FOI battle with Good Law Project, it published a list of 50 VIPs. However, internal Government documents leaked to Good Law Project now reveal that the true number of companies fast-tracked down the ‘VIP’ lane was far higher. We can reveal that at least 18 other companies, who between them were directly awarded a further £984 million in PPE contracts, were also given the ‘VIP’ treatment." Interestingly I as a non Tory think let BoJo stay in power... every day he discredits the Tory Govt so good for the opposition But as Major says he is now discrediting the office of the PM etc etc... . and a very bad sign for future politics.... and therefore should go now
I've been saying let him stay as he's doing wonders for the cause of Scottish Independence. We're currently well past the 'normal' tipping point imo, but legislation currently being considered in parliament may see the government allowed to refuse a referendum result if support isn't high enough in their opinion (ironic, given the result of the Brexit referendum) - somewhere around 65% is being mooted. With Covid seemingly starting to be on the slide, the Scottish government are now about to ramp up their Indy plans - and may want him to stay for just a little while longer.
Conservatives would do well to listen to him and recall the better aspects of their tradition. For a long time now, John Major has been the voice of a more moderate, responsible form of Conservative politics. It is sad for me to see the way that Johnson is attracting so much scorn and derision from all around the world. Rather than making the country better it seems that Johnson is taking it into a backwater of irrelevance.
And just to reinforce what I was saying, Liz Truss’ Moscow trip has not gone down well with Lavrov, who said UK diplomats came “unprepared” to their meeting and said it was “like a mute talking to a deaf person”
I read that Johnson is off on a walkabout in Scotland this week. I do hope that the population remain polite and welcoming to him.
We know his route - it never seems to change from the few 'safe houses'. And far from a walkabout amongst the public, he's normally kept at a fair distance from them.
