I know the vaccine isn’t going to prevent COVID but you’d hope they be less suffering seriously but guess sins might be really vulnerable that even the vaccine doesn’t offer a lot of protection or of course maybe refused to have the jab at all !!

If you look back at the graphs from last year, then look at the news conferences from the same time, it is quite clear that every time there was a relaxation in the restrictions, the numbers worsened each time. The vaccine or the restrictions on their own will not get it under control, and to concentrate on the number of vaccine doses given while throwing everything open has been described by 1,200 scientists as an experiment being carried out on a population. If they are correct in their forecasts, then England will be a danger to the world as it breeds new variants.

Was talking to someone who lives in Australia earlier and they said their state has 18 cases but being shut down completely and you cannot travel more than 5km!

This is the 5th time that has happened to them .

Goodness knows how people would react if that happened here !

It did happen up here last year, from memory. Didn't stop the royals, landed gentry and various English politicians from coming up though.

An interesting snippet of information that appears to have bypassed the media. I wonder how BoJo's crew will respond?

It used to be that people with British passports didn't need a visa to visit Yugoslavia UNLESS their passport was issued in the Isle of Man. Manx citizens required a visa. I could never find out the official reason for this, though there were plenty of suggestions.

Maybe the Yugoslavs didn't like residents of tax havens sniffing around their country?

A near-unbelievable thread on reasons given by the Home Office for refusal of asylum since 2010. Created by a lawyer specialising in Asylum and Immigration Law. It just highlights what an evil bunch we have in power in Westminster. <grr>

Guess this will give the anti vaccine people something to chew on.

But in reality without the vaccine things would be much worse .

    Scaremongering headlines again?

So here we go. Have a health pass if you want to go to a nightclub. Carrot and stick the same as here. Pubs, football matches, don't want to, but will not rule it out. Eighteen hours after throwing the nightclubs open he is talking about possibly shutting them again. Has he thought this through?
Now the USA has told people not to travel to the UK.

I flipping hope so - he has caused a bit of a furore here. LNER announced that they will be following his rules on cross-border trains into Scotland, effectively breaking Scottish law. Things could get nasty.

I did expect there to be a reaction, and of course that has been widely reported in the UK. Polls suggest however that people are prepared to accept the restriction by quite a large margin.

Has Johnson learnt nothing from his disastrous decision to leave arrivals from India free to enter the country until the virus had chance to spread like wildfire? News today that people arriving from green and orange listed countries will not be checked at the border because he doesn't have enough border force staff and a creaking IT system that is not fit for purpose. It looks bad for the country to have six hour queues at airports, so scrap the controls seems to be his reasoning. He argues that airlines are doing the checks for him, but go to many airports and you find controls are almost non existant. This is not responsible leadership at a time when it is so desperately needed.

Wonder what will happen now the kids are off ?

Will they just spread the virus out of school or will case reduce now they are all not packed together in a unventilated class room ?

Although I'm not au fait with the rules down there, I'd be very surprised if they were in unventilated classrooms. Scottish Government rules require that all classrooms have to be ventilated at all times - so windows remain open all day, whatever the weather/temperature. That's why my wife and daughter were both rather grumpy late May/early June - it snowed.

School holidays started here at the end of June - infection numbers peaked on 1st July and have dropped steadily ever since, so whether kids are to blame for the spread is debateable - especially as stats show that the 'worst' age group for infections is 20-24.
