No, I just meant that there was much talk of 'taking back control', especially of our borders, and it was possible all along.

The ones that clapped for it will never admit they were conned.

As an interesting aside to all this the German Weather forecasters have said that they are no longer able to predict more than a couple of days in advance because of Covid 19. The reason for this is that weather forecasters are dependent upon regular measurement of temperatures at higher altitudes - for this they use the services of Lufthansa. With the reduction of air traffic weather forecasting has become much more difficult.

Boris Johnson - "Schools are safe... but the issue is the extend to which mingling of kids in schools, by putting lots of households together, causes the epidemic to spread even faster..."

So as far as I can work out from this, schools are safe providing they have no children or staff in them. Is this the best leadership the country has to offer?

Is he simply guilty of the sin of omission? Public schools may be safe as, to my understanding, they have smaller class sizes than State schools, making blended learning a practical choice - one that is not so practical in overcrowded State schools.

I admit to having not kept up with this, so it may no longer be the case, but I seem to remember that Public schools were funded not only by fees, but also had access to State funds, meaning better equipment in the classrooms. And then there is the dubious nature of their status as Charities - a privilege not extended to State schools.

    Gatwick Airport last night.

"If anyone was wondering I just landed @HeathrowAirport - not one person looked at my locator form, no temperature checks, no hand sanitizer in several of the dispensers I tried. No mention of the track and trace app anywhere. In Bahrain even supermarkets had these basics set up."

Compare that to this - the experiences of someone arriving at Incheon Airport in South Korea. For me, this highlights the utter contempt the UK government have for each and every UK resident - if I had my way, every MP in the government would be taken out and shot at dawn. It makes my blood boil that they haven't implemented similar protocols here. <grr>

"there is no doubt in my mind that schools are safe” Boris Johnson 03/01/2021
"schools act as vectors for transmission” Boris Johnson 04/01/2021

What happened overnight? The SAGE committee told him to do this on the 22/12/2020.
So this new variant has suddenly popped up. Hardly, people have known about it since October. Shame he can no longer blame the EU for what is known as the English disease.
Still no action mentioned about closing the borders. This is one thing that countries do to stop people bringing covid into their lands.

A copy of a truly disturbing email sent to staff of Royal London Hospital on New Year's Eve:

“we are now in disaster medicine mode. We are no longer providing high standard critical care, because we cannot.”:emoticon-0106-cryin

That is just so very sad BB, but my daughter has told me that similar things are happening elsewhere. The staff where she works have been told that they must not release such information to the media under threat of action being taken against them. France was faced with a similar crisis last Spring in the north east of the country, and patients were sent to other hospitals that still had space, while other countries such as Germany and Holland also helped out. Marseille had a different crisis last autumn when they had space but not enough staff. A lot of medical staff had gone back to their home countries in the EU to help out, so they were appealing for retired qualified nurses to return for a limited period.

It is sad - not to mention a downright disgrace. The email was leaked to an ITV reporter by an organisation which represents around 46,000 UK doctors - I'd imagine that any threats of action against them, or attempts to find the individual source, would be met head-on. It's a tough one I know, but the public have a right to know exactly how serious the situation is - anything that may help them think about modifying their behaviours and adhering to the guidance can only be a positive thing.

Thousands have already died and there's little doubt that thousands more will die - but to this buffoon that just a 'bit of chaos'? <doh>

Watching the chaos around Capitol Hill driven on by a right wing populist politician, one cannot help but compare with the incumbent of No.10. It doesn't matter what you say, and once again in the Commons today the PM was not telling the truth. Both in the States and in the UK democracy itself is under threat. Trump refused to believe that Covid was anything more than a seasonal flu, while Johnson went on holiday when he should have been leading the government and country. Both men are responsible for the death of many thousands because of their inaction. Trump is going, but the UK is still led if that is the right word by a person unfit to hold the office of PM.

BBC local news in north east England is reporting that a GP has revealed that some people are turning down a vaccination because it was manufactured abroad and want to wait for the
    “ English “ one. <doh>

Well, you never know Frenchie - a vaccine produced in Germany <laugh> If English people take this then within a few days they start demanding bigger beer mugs, and feeling the need to wear Lederhosen <doh>
