Where on earth was that? It's not really something the bulk of the media are likely to report.

I am not sure now where it has happened, but I did see the report yesterday.

It looks as though an agreement has been reached over the problem of Gibraltar and Spain. Gibraltar joins Schengen allowing anyone with an EU passport to cross the border without need of a passport. However if you have a UK passport you will have to go through border checks to enter the British territory.

“Pfizer say that jab 1 only confers 52% efficacy for 21 days. and by day 42 is down to zero again. What our Govt is doing is creating perfect conditions for a mutated strain that's vaccine-resistant, which would render the vaccine USELESS.”

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Absolutely no idea, our government. Precisely what happens when economics mixes with medical matters. The economy can be fixed, dead folk can't.

When Macron closed the border we had thousands of trucks stuck in the UK. Was it the same on the French side OFH as there was no news about it here?

No it didn't happen this side because the UK didn't shut their side of the border. Many of the drivers when they did get back said they would refuse to go to the UK again. Seems that there are now problems at Holyhead with 20% of the lorries turning up at the UK/NI border being turned away as they don't have the correct paperwork.

That's no mean feat - isn't the border in the middle of the Irish Sea?

Yes it is, but Grayling was put in charge of getting the pontoons, but unfortunately he thought that empty shoe boxes would do, and they have all sunk.

According to the French health ministry, 157 people died from the virus in the last 24 hours. New data also showed 3,466 new cases. The increase is within the government’s target of 5,000 or less per day. Despite this news, some areas of the country are going to have their curfew extended from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am. Compared to the numbers in the UK, a further 57,725 cases and another 445 deaths, it does look as though the nationwide restrictions are having some effect, although it is always dangerous to take snapshots.

Tx OFH, why will they not go back again? Covid? It was Macron who closed the border and caused the well organised queues this side.

Lots of the drivers are paid on the number of kilometres they drive, nothing else. Holdups at the borders while they have covid tests, or lorries checked, or paperwork looked into mean that they stop earning. For that reason they are saying that they will only drive on the mainland. The first lorries that went into NI today had 50% of their contents checked. I have spoken to a few French drivers on the ferry who did two trips to the UK each week from the depots in the north, but the new regulations will mean they will only be able to do one. Have your income halved and you will go elsewhere.

Ah I see, I expect things will settle in time once new procedures are bedded down.

    Cash flow
If the flight is cancelled they would offer a voucher for a later flight
BA are doing the same and I think other operators are doing it now

Looks like the French were in charge of their borders as part of the EU? Shame the people that were conned aren't more upset about it...

To be absolutely fair Toby, the normal rules of Schengen do not apply under the present circumstances - the closing of the border had nothing to do with Brexit. Most European borders are now closed - I cannot simply get on a train from Cologne to Brussels, as in the past, if I did the Belgian authorities would send me back. The fact is that the disease is running rampant in the UK, compared to France. There is no connection between Germany and the UK at the moment <doh>
