Just listened to the press briefing, and from what was said if I lived in the UK I would be unlikely to get the vaccine before May or June. Van Tam says that he doesn't expect it to ever be eradicated, but we will eventually learn to live with it in the same way that we do the flu.
Yes don’t think all those healthy and young will get the vaccine for a while but it’s a start . Let’s hope it’s all well organised and planned out !
What else can this government get wrong? The main Kent lorry park for post-Brexit Customs clearances will now not be operational until late February/early March. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1334500715448954885.html
Huge traffic jams over here on the autoroutes approaching Calais and Eurotunnel. The British "are filling their stocks like never before" for fear of the duties which may be imposed from January 1,when the transition period has expired, said the secretary general of the National Federation of Road Transport of Pas-de-Calais, Sébastien Rivéra.
NHS bosses warned the 800,000 doses that comprise the UK’s first consignment from Pfizer’s manufacturing plant in Belgium may be “the only batch we receive for some time”, raising questions about how soon further supplies will arrive. The MHRA is reviewing the conditions it attached to the vaccine’s licence and is expected to approve the sub-division of the 975-dose batches into smaller quantities, but not for about two weeks.
I wonder if this will put people off the vaccine anyway? The UK government have given Pfizer protection from any legal action related to it - which immediately makes me suspicious. I won't be in a rush to join the queue. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...egal-indemnity-safety-ministers-b1765124.html
I guess people who are healthy and won't suffer from the virus will have their doubts but think people who it's basically a matter of life or death in terms of taking this vaccine will want to have it regardless of any potential questions over it.
Who knew that money rendered you immune to Covid? Maybe it's just my cynical & suspicious mind, but his emphasis of the word England seems to suggest that, to the UK government, no-one from N.Ireland, Scotland or Wales merits the description 'high-value'...
Money doesn't keep you immune to Covid 19 but it helps BB. The rich man can insulate himself in his SUV whereas others are dependent on public transport. It is also easier to practice social distancing if you have acres of land than if you live in a high rise flat in Birmingham. Poorer people are mostly less able to work from home, and the professions which are being sacrificed for the general good are small business, those involved in entertainment and the arts, and single self employed. The owners of large chains will be rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of all those small competitors currently going bankrupt. In short - Covid 19 is leading to the rich getting richer (because the monopolies will survive and prosper) and the poor getting poorer. What is needed after all this is a massive redistribution plan.
"We have secured a vital deal allowing service professionals to work in Switzerland visa-free for 90 days". Liz Truss Great news as she has negotiated a deal that is worse than the existing one in the same way that she has negotiated a worse trade deal with Japan. My son-in law works in Switzerland and doesn't need a visa to do so. This is what world leading means. Accepting what other countries choose to give us, and as a result giving away a bit more sovereignty each time.
What a frikkin mess. What? I hear you ask. All of it. All of it. It would appear that nothing is immune.
So Durham police are only now assessing a file on Cummings' lockdown trip? I wonder what kept them? https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/dec/04/durham-police-dominic-cummings-nazir-ifzal-dossier
The notion that the UK is prepared for what chaos looms ahead is well and truly debunked by this blog that sets out facts on the shipment of goods in and out of the country. I did post a piece a long time ago about my experiences of exporting to both the EU and outside of it. I was told that all you needed was a good freight forwarder and there would be no problems. This blog is by a very experienced freight forwarder, who explains why to a large extent it is outside his control. https://ucleuropeblog.com/2020/11/2...ive-customs-clearance-in-post-brexit-britain/
