Strange too that yesterday they withheld releasing up to date figures - when this was already circulating on Chinese social media. It's as if they don't have a handle on what's going on. please log in to view this image
That’s a huge mortality rate , since only hospitalised ordinary folk are tested , celebs and knobs get done as vips , but that’s pushing 6% .........
Remember Grayling with his ferry contract to a company that didn't have any ferries? Seems it is quite a good idea as we know have a contract for Dyson that doesn't have any ventilators.
They snuck the announcement in around the same time as Patel "apologised" for Windrush. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...y-that-will-have-final-say-over-russia-report
Westminster insiders reacted with dismay at the possibility of Grayling becoming chairman. One Conservative MP said: “He doesn’t have a clue and is likely to be supportive of the government, not critical.” One Whitehall veteran expressed outrage, writing an expletive in a text. Grayling is best known as an error-prone minister who presided over the collapse of Northern and Thameslink rail services and the granting of a no-deal Brexit ferry contract to a company with no ships. As justice secretary, he part-privatised the probation service and banned prisoners from receiving books from relatives – a measure that was overturned in the courts. He was also a prominent supporter of leave in the 2016 referendum campaign.
Sky News (Kay Burley). There are 4 flights from Madrid to Heathrow today and NOBODY on those flights is being tested. The government said they 'should' follow the guidelines. We are being run by incompetent amateurs.
So having had a very stiff letter from a government select committee asking him to reply to their questions by tomorrow, Tim Martin has done a U turn and says he will pay his Wetherspoon employees what they are due. However the committee didn't ask him to comment on the fact that he isn't paying his suppliers, so no change on that one. The damage he has done to the chain will be long lasting, and there are rumbles from shareholders about replacing him.
OFH, have you had any discussions with some of the tens of thousands of Brits who live in France, partly or wholly on the proceeds of gites, camp sites, etc. Where are they looking for financial lifelines? Will the French government bale them out?
I know two people who have gites, but they don't rely on it for their only income. I also know two more who used to have gites, but gave up on it as a reliable source of income ten years ago. The regulations on what you must provide do not make it a good business investment, and certainly at this time of year very few gites or campsites are open. If you are looking for a gite to rent, as I have, the vast majority are owned by the French, and once again it is usually a sideline, with a stay at home wife managing the gite while the husband has his own job, or more often they are a retired couple with a state pension. Unemployment rates of pay are just about possible to live on, so if you are in the system you wouldn't be left unable to feed yourself.
anyone else would quarantine them , minimum , but no , here it’s , off you go and please don’t go too close to others unless you’re going to work
unlike the £75 a week here ,some of which will be needed to go towards rent , energy bills , water rates , food will be last thing to get , i defy anyone to live off that long term , i e three months
There are lots of Brits in the Tarn and the Dordogne that I know of that do rely on tourism. I was just interested which, if any, would receive help from the French government. I cannot see the UK government getting involved.
I don't really know what their situation would be. If they are running a legitimate business then I guess there would be help. The restaurant I use which had to close has the owners and staff who will be paid 100% based on their current earnings. Quite how a part time business such a seasonal gite or campsite would be treated I don't know.
