When you see that Italy prosecution service is questioning the Prime Minister over criminal negligence in the government's handling of the crisis, it is sad to see that in the UK no such facility is open to the CPS. You really would have to be very dim to not see how things have gone wrong, even in the timing of statements that people took as an opportunity to go to the seaside. There is also no doubt that the Cummings saga did have an effect on the attitude of the population. For the PM to back him up when it was so very obvious he was lying has not helped either when the PM wants to give a lead.

Good news for us in France tonight. The number of people who died in the whole of May was 3% less than last year, and the same number as in 2018. Despite this the government has said that the virus is still circulating and is urging everyone to continue with the measures in place.

Interesting side effect of the Corona crisis is that it may be, apparently, making our weather forecasts less reliable. Apparently fewer planes translates into fewer automatic weather readings of ambient temperature, wind speed and direction, which is reducing the data available for forecasters. This may mean that the warning time in the event of dramatic weather fronts could be halved. So it appears that asking the frog may be coming back into fashion ! Fewer flights could also be changing the climatic conditions as well (for the better). Unfortunately the German government is relaxing its lockdown so much that some people may be getting their cheap flights to Majorca after all this summer <doh> There are some aspects of this lock down which could be maintained afterwards if only we were enlightened enough to realize it.

Most of the restrictions that we have learnt to live with are still in place, although yesterday the Paris region was able to join the rest of the country in the green zone. Some of the borders have been reopened, although not with Spain or the UK. All shops have been open for a couple of weeks, but there have not been signs of people fighting to get into them. The message that Macron put out last night was clear and concise, please continue to be very careful. People have known what they are allowed to do, none of the mixed messages coming from the UK government. There is something odd going on psychologically that I don't understand. Life has been quiet in this area, yet go into a supermarket or other shop in town and people will queue at the tills well apart, not something that the French are renowned for. At the start of the lockdown there was little in the way of panic buying. Maybe it has something to do with spending a Saturday or Sunday in a shopping mall is not thought of as entertainment by people here as some in the UK seem to think.

I've been to many French shopping malls and they always seem busy, really no different from UK ones. Macron's approval rating has taken a significant dive in the last couple of weeks, he is really distrusted by the public.

If you are not embarrassed by your latest effort, you have very little self awareness.

You clearly have no awareness of French shopping malls or indeed the latest opinion polls on your under pressure President. However you try to build Macron up on here it is the French themselves you need to convince, they don't trust him. Check the polls, his temporary rise has quickly been reversed.
