Here is a source of information. In itself it is just a statistical graph, but it is worth adding to a database of info. Would I take this as the only bit of information to consider. No!

No, I am not saying that. What I probably wanted to say but did not make a sufficient emphasise on is that this is a very fluid and changing hourly situation. What was a sensible judgment on Thursday has probably now progressed by evidence in a number of countries in the past 48 hours to a very different level. The US and Trump were fully aware of our intentions on Thursday and were happy not to include the UK and Ireland in the ban imposed on the 26 other European countries which include for example Slovakia which announced on Thursday it would be closing its borders even though they only had 17 confirmed cases. They waited (US) until today when things have escalated to now include both the UK and Ireland who in past 48 hours had announced they would be shutting schools etc. So different Countries imposing different restrictions are being treated equally in the ban now. I have read this evening, an article on the BBC news website which outlines concerns from UK scientists along the lines of what OFH raised in his earlier posts. The only real argument that could be raised is why the UK is seemingly at present showing if I might say a slower increase in numbers than France, Germany and Spain. The population is still even at a reduced rate mixing freely, do not have the restrictions placed on them as other citizens of other countries and although the numbers of fatalities and confirmed cases are escalating we are still behind them when we should perhaps have tighter controls. Bratislava for instance on pictures I have seen today is a ghost City but their confirmed cases have risen to 44 a doubling and more inside 48 hours, the same as the UK. There is so much to analyse on this disease and to learn. My point was only political in its point not to openly be negative to a Government because of which party they are, it should not be viewed on in any other light. However any government tries in the current situation to mitigate the negative effect closures have on education are really only token gestures and there will be long term consequences for those facing critical periods of their education ( exam years etc,) that may have ramifications long term for them. These online platforms etc are fine for a short limited period but we are talking weeks/ months at least and they can not cover enough of the curriculum to make up for class time. We are I feel looking at probably the rest of the educational year which in context is nearly half of an academic year. At the moment I truly would not like to make a judgement of which country I would prefer to be in because of any restrictions they may have imposed because it really is too early to call, but maybe on Monday my mind may have been made up.

The problem is your conclusions are always political without consistency. For some obscure reason you always have a need to criticise a Tory UK government whilst everything the French do is wonderful. It is very predictable and very dull.

Over 70s face being forced to quarantine for four months. Football could be the least of our problems.

    Very good post Flitton.

Tomorrow being the third Sunday in the month, I was due to go to the auberge for my lovely dinner and some great company. Within the past couple of hours Marie who is the joint owner of the restaurant has e-mailed to say that they will have to close from tonight. I am sad for her as she has to make a living from the service she provides and she has become a friend. I was prepared to go and have a great meal there, but the government is trying to limit contact between people, that I accept. I tend generally to go along with people who are proactive rather than those who are reactive, and from what I see the UK government is in the stage of reacting rather than having a clear plan as to what they are doing. Just my opinion of course.

Not at all. I open my eyes to what is going on around me and come to conclusions. Sad to see that someone tries to agree with everything because he has handed over a membership fee.

It never used to be a condition of party membership that you had to stop thinking. Maybe things have changed. Sad really, but you seem happy to be told what to think.

One of the biggest problems with looking at the numbers of new cases for most countries is that they are already old figures. If eg. France had over 800 confirmed 'new cases' this would be the results from tests which were taken the day before yesterday - those tests may well have been taken 3-4 days after the actual infection took place. So what classifies as a 'new case' was probably contracted 5-6 days ago. This time span is far too long - there is reason to believe that a patient is at his most infectious during the first 7 days. South Korea's method of testing is getting people earlier, and processing the results quicker (in 6 hours) - because of their drive in centres their medical staff do not have to change their protective clothing between tests - this means that an individual test at one of these centres takes 10 minutes, and then they are ready for the next one. Evaluation of the results is in one of 92 centres which work 24 hours per day - in shifts. This is why South Korea has slowed down the rate of infection so dramatically. Everything in Europe is taking too long. Because of the time lapse in Europe any reduction to the infection rate as a result of closing down of large gatherings of people would only be noticeable in 5-6 days time. Another thing which is failing from the statistics when we see that eg. Germany has over 4,500 active cases is their relationship to each other - this could represent 1,000 families. It is reasonably obvious that the first person to be infected, if you have it, is going to be your partner or some other close member of your family. If the reproduction rate of this virus is only 1:2.5 then we can presume that most cross infections take place within the family.

I agree with that cologne. What has amazed me has been the people flying into Heathrow or Gatwick or elsewhere, without any checks on them to see if they have a raised temperature when they have just come from a high risk area. When questioned how this can be the government says that it is not 100% accurate. Personally I think that if it was only 50% accurate it would be some help.

    Just a few observations.

Driving back from Wales today the roads seemed a lot quieter :emoticon-0148-yes:. As was the service station.

Went out for Lunch yesterday and we were the only clients until a couple came in an hour later. Odd thing was it took 45 mins to produce our food!

Picture of The Royal Mile in the DT today looking deserted.

Tomorrow I will need to cancel all our bookings to Florida and hopefully get refunds.

I did read that temperature checks were not helpful in spotting carriers of the virus unless they actually had symptoms already in which case it is not really going to help with detection of potential carriers.

Mme who knows about these things says paper Masks are ineffective when they get damp, which they do from breathing.

With the virtual shutdown of air travel and no power used in major events this virus is doing more to save the planet than all of Greta's jet setting from country to country

I still keep up with the news from Banbury where I had my business. One of the long established companies that I know well manufactures hand sanitizers as one of its products. It has reported that Northampton General Hospital is having problems as visitors are stealing bottles of it from the bedsides of the patients. They also see small quantity bottles appearing on E-Bay at ten times the actual worth. They are struggling to supply a £0.5 M contract with the army due to the lack of materials arriving in the country.

I bought some rubbing alcohol last week for £5..told Hackney about it and when i looked to give him the link they only had it at £58.
Meanwhile I have tooth ache, a rumbling nerve issue, and found out that no one has any paracetamol, and due to my health conditions can't take aspirin. On line the only place that has it is a dealer in Latvia... Crazy...

Research on a vaccine is continuing apace - doctors at the university clinic in Düsseldorf have been testing products intended for the Ebola virus with good results as yet. The same research is going on in Hamburg, Munich and Tübingen - and........the USA is trying to poach German scientists with financial offers because Trump wants any vaccine to be developed in the USA. What a **** that man is !

You can get various concoctions that have paracetamol in them and if its a nerve problem perhaps ibuprofen may be more effective?

Rugby Union officials are meeting tomorrow to discuss what they should do. It is being suggested that a 10 or 12 week shutdown of all games is likely. This seems a far more realistic estimate than some are proposing. In another report it has been suggested that horse racing could continue behind closed doors. We would hate to see the bookies lose out I am sure.
