For all its faults and poorly thought out inconsistencies, the Government's tier system is basically necessary in my view to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed with Coronavirus patients this winter. A worryingly large number of Conservative MP's disagree, but it is totally unclear what they would do instead. Their notions seem to range from different measures in every little market town, to just opening everything up and letting the infection take who it will. And the SNP & Labour position is to cop out and abstain. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-55138507 If the Government of this country is getting stick (some of it deserved) for taking the action it has, the opposition should be in line for equal judgment for failing to provide any credible alternatives. And there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY members of Parliament should be getting this year's inflation-busting pay rise. They should all be taking a 20% cut, in honour of the furlough scheme.
NO JAB - NO ENTRY Something for the wobbly third of the population to consider. You want to go shopping, visit your favourite restaurant or cinema or theatre ... or football match / other sporting event? Don't be surprised if they won't let you in without proof you've been vaccinated against COVID19. Don't listen to ant-vacc garbage. If you want your old life back, get vaccinated.
I imagine this will also rapidly affect the travel plans of anti-vaccers too. Airlines are already saying they will want to see a vaccination certificate if you want to board the plane, and I imagine hotels will gradually follow suite once the vaccinations are more available. The world may shrink rapidly for the small groups who want to believe vaccinarions are a bad thing.
The one you refer to is around 1/2 weeks behind the first two. Drugs & pharmaceuticals are big business, but on this occasion, who cares? I hope they all get rich. They have done a superb job in bringing this to market in barely 9 months.
Desmond Swayne suggested that the best way to persuade the population at large about the safety of the vaccine would be to have MPs and their families take it first. I would support that idea.
This is via a second party but apparently the Pfizer vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting or spreading Covid it just lessens the symptoms
What a fantastic achievement that the UK has become the first country in the world to approve a vaccine & commence vaccinations, possibly as soon as tomorrow. Superb.
The Government should pass a law saying that anybody who refuses to take a Coronavirus vaccine (without a verified medical reason signed off by two doctors) has no grounds to go to court for discrimination, should any public or private organisation refuse to serve them for that reason. That should go for children as well. A rump of people out there (maybe as many as 20% sadly) need to stop squealing on about their rights and spouting stupid crap about personal freedoms, and wake up to the reality of life now. If they want to enjoy access to all the mormal services and facilities, they get a vaccine jab. Simple as that. And no more moronic gibbering about microchips or zombies. Will these people just grow up for f**k sake. Their IQ's can't be much above 50, most of them.
I am starting to see small shoots growing. The shops, cinemas etc reopening, Football admitting a small number of spectators. But the largest shoot is the Pfizer vaccine being rolled out in this Country. We are all desperate to return to some semblance of normality. A big thank you to Nurses, Doctors, cleaners and all who work in the NHS for putting your own lives at risk to protect others. For all the Scientists who have used all of their ability and their hard work to produce a vaccine in double quick time.
Modern medicine is a modern-day miracle. SCientific research begins with the ability to admit you don't know. I don't know are 3 very underused and underestimated words. To hear a prominent politician say "Well I think we've had enough of experts" does not bode well.
On the day that there is great news about the vaccine the PM is rightly urging caution, whereas in the early days his rhetoric was full of optimism which proved to be unfounded. Now that he is striking the right note I hope that people don't think that just because he got it wrong before he's got it wrong now. It would have helped if Labour had backed the proposals. By abstaining they were allowing the proposals to go through, so why not let them go through in a more positive way, which would give them more force.
No idea why Labour didn't vote for something fairly logical this time. I'd guess between the rampant cronyism and some of the poor decisions Johnson and co have indulged in, Starmer wants to keep them at arms length. But really, it would be better to vote in favour of this one - the virus needs to be controlled.
