Poor GDP figures out today. Many hundreds of thousands of people will be made unemployed after this month, unfortunately. Furlough has kept many people in jobs that no longer exist.

Some Universities, Durham in particular, are treating students like sh1t, especially the ones who have paid for catering and are getting crisps and pot-noodles. No way to recover from Covid. A more cynical person might suspect that they were only concerned with getting their money.

A lot of these students need to man up. Some of the scenes on the news have been pathetic. They are in suburban Manchester, not the Yemen.

    Yes.
We're in a real jam now.

Speaking for myself, Furlough has allowed the small company I work for to survive since March without having to make anybody redundant.
We've been working with about half our staff, the other half off on furlough.
In November we should be able to take those furloughed workers back, with the help of the Government's new wages top-up scheme.

It's going to be difficult, but if we really work at it we may be able to get by without anybody having to leave.
I really hope this happens, as our workers have been with the company for many years. I've been there myself well over 5 years now, and I'm still the 3rd most recently hired employee.

Unfortunately, I think the only way to stop this Second wave (maybe a tsunami) is to put the UK back into full lockdown.
If we do it soon, it might be possible to come out of it again before Christmas.
Sadly, I think the alternative is a real danger of the NHS being overwhelmed. There is no way that can be allowed.

No not at all. I feel the same as you about Halloween, but if my kids want to do it, I don't want to be a grinch about it. But I really don't feel we need it in Europe. The times they are a changin I guess.

Lol only yesterday I saw a shop stacked with pumpkins, but then again the residents of said hell hole are playing it exactly by the "R" number.

I don't see what Lockdown does, it won't go away just because we are hiding. Give everyone under 65 their freedom and the remainder can self isolate or choose to live. We are not special just because we have language and a sense of our own mortality. We are just another animal that happens to be top of the food chain. The longer we make decisions based on sentiment, the more will die. If the human race were a dog pack, old people like me that live on a pension and produce zero would be deemed lame and left to rot. I'm access baggage, and if nature want's me gone in order to give the young a chance, then so be it.

Our self awareness and ability to imagine gives us choices that no other species has, when it comes to threats like this.
Which is why we will eventually win.
Not just the 'fittest' few by the unforgiving standards of natural selection. But a great majority of us.

I'm not a believer that nature 'wants' anything. It's just a mechanism by which different species continue to interact and evolve within overlapping negative feedback loops, or fall outside them and become extinct.

For better or worse, Humanity has proven it does not have to live and die within those parameters.
    More power to us! :emoticon-0165-muscl

The generosity of the Premier League knows no bounds...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54481945

Fans wishing to watch any Premier League games not being broadcast by Sky Sports on their subscription sports channels can buy the right to watch them on Sky's Box Office service for £15 a match.

A nice little money spinner... :emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash:

Sounds like Schwartz changed his mind at the last minute, despite the personal intervention of Sandgaard.

Scenes in Peckham at 10pm last night, where hundreds of young people spilled out of the pubs and started a game of cricket in the road. It looked to be good natured, but not a face mask or any evidence of social distance in sight. This is madness. These same people will be in hospital on a ventilator in a month’s time.

The rules and laws for Coronavirus are only for the plebs. The little people. The have-nots.

That Scottish MP woman is refusing to resign, saying her huge contribution (to her own career) should not be wasted because of an error in judgment.
Quite an error - potentially infecting hundreds of other train users on a 400 mile journey.
And didn't I hear she was one of those calling for Dominic Cummings to be sacked?

Hypocrites and rule-breakers set themselves up above the law.
Then they shake their heads and wonder why people down on the streets won't do as they're told.
Yes, those cricket players are behaving like selfish fools. But they are only following the example set by their so-called betters.

Yes, she says the virus made her panic.

Obviously the right stuff for a Member of Parliament - doesn't crack under pressure <doh>

Young healthy people can get long Covid, which may turn out to be a more serious problem in the long term.

    11th October update;

The second wave continues to swell in Europe.
Infection rates are up everywhere, but most sharply in the UK.
Britain & France both have awful infection rates.
Britain, France and Spain are suffering the highest number of fatalities, and probably the highest number of hospital admissions.

    Stay safe everyone <ok>
