Isn’t it good that McDonald’s will be opening! All I need now is a proper pub hangover to even consider getting one !
The most amazing thing about the Big Mac special sauce is that however long you go without said sandwich (about 6 weeks in my case) not only can you remember how it tastes - the taste is still lingering in your mouth. You can brush, you can gargle. You can eat hot chilli or curry until you go pop pop pop. Doesn't matter. That special sauce taste will still be in there somewhere.
I'm surprised to hear on the news this morning that riot police in Germany have broken up a mass demonstration against the lockdown in Berlin. And that this mass demonstration (which deliberately defies social distancing) has been happening EVERY WEEK. In terms of virus infections Germany has had it very mild compared to the UK, Spain, Italy and even France. And the German people in general have a reputation for respecting their civil authorities and being law-abiding as a rule. I would guess this is probably mostly youths (maybe far-right, or being whipped up by anarchists). But I'm not sure. I would imagine most Germans are intensely embarrassed by this selfish nonsense - a stain on their national character.
I've noticed a few political commentators (Andrew Marr for instance) beginning to talk in an odd, dystopian/romantic fashion about the future. Their general theme seems to be along the lines that nothing is ever going to be the same again. While this notion might be entertaining to their bored intellects, it is not helpful, or correct. Granted, life will not be like it was for quite come time. But once there is a Coronavirus vaccine, COVID19 will be no more of a threat to our way of life than Influenza. Elderly and vulnerable folk will get their C19 jabs each autumn, the way they get 'Flu jabs now. A few aspects of life will be permanently altered, but in general the things we mostly used to do - go shopping, go to pubs, bars and restaurants, go to sporting events, go on holiday etc. - we will do again. Life will be, in all major respects, back to normal. This will probably be the case by round about the end of 2021, maybe a few months sooner than that. We will not be condemned to live forever in some kind of twilight zone, where Government dictates our lives from the TV at 5pm every day, and people are afraid to walk down the street or get into their car in case they are stopped by the Police. Once things do get 'back to normal' I hope we keep our new respect for the NHS workers, carers and other essential service workers. Maybe we can agree to pay more taxes, to ensure these people get a proper living wage for the jobs they do. And we can make sure we are fully stocked with equipment and PPE for the next Pandemic. Running the NHS at 80% capacity instead of 99% would also be a good long term policy, even if it again means higher taxes to pay for it. But let's not get carried away with the notion that lockdown life is the way things are always going to be from now on. That kind of talk is only going to scare people and put even more pressure on those struggling with their mental health.
Off to chavvy Petts Wood for some shopping, it is certainly noticeable the volume of cars running around. Hopefully I won't bump into our moody Moderator......
Yep, I don't drive so things are a problem getting around. Tbh using the bus is now hit and miss with people on there. The prick on the bus earlier was coughing and spluttering so I sat at the front 15' away from him. Not ideal of course.
Unfortunately London and public transport will prolong this virus but if you’ve got no option it’s tough
100% Example, how will they stop trains being bumper to bumper? It cannot happen. The moment 'lockdown' (such as it is)is relaxed the trains will be packed.
It can be very prickly and precise over there which is why I prefer a lighthearted and sometimes dark humour approach to life- it helps me through tough times
Totally agree, that's why over here is more bubbly. It's important to not take things too seriously at times.
I generally agree, though sometimes TC induces a sense of humour failure in me when he sings the praises of Roland. I've tried to learn to tolerate that from fellow Charlton fans, but even though I know he's only on a wind-up I can't seem to take it from him. That's what really good WUMs do I suppose. They know the chinks in your armour. IA used to really get my goat too years ago, but I learned how to let his nonsense pass me by.
Williamson is just plain silly. He targets people, he'd try it on with me. I find TC okay, tbh I'd lay it on more thick if the roles were reversed. Console yourself Mr Lardiman that you're not a spanner. He will always have an inferiority complex hanging over him
What you’ve got to remember lardy is TC does seem to have an ounce of common sense where most of the millwall fans only know what an eighth is!
