Took longer than the Zika vaccine did to develop and test. You don't need decades when there's a sequenced genome available and previously tested mRNA carriers already around. You just tweak the antigen - that can be done in hours - to suit the particular variant and job done. Mind you, having billions poured in from around the globe and loads of volunteers helps.
